At a time when the majority of Americans recognize the corporate media are dishonest, journalism tops the list of the 10 most regretted college majors, according to a ZipRecruiter survey from last November that CNBC republicized on Sunday. A whopping 87 percent of journalism graduates regret their degree choice, with sociology, liberal arts, communications, and education next on the regret list. Of job seekers with college degrees overall, 44 percent regret their chosen major.

I went to J-school, though I had to drop out before graduation. Even 30 years ago, the professors were telling us not to major in journalism. They said we would starve. They told us to minor in it. Back then, the courses were tough in our school. The professors had no qualms about flunking everyone. You forgot to attribute a source in a sentence? Big fat F. They would tear us to pieces in front of a whole class. I loved every minute of it.
Ethnic studies should go to the top of the list of regretted majors!!!!
How hard can a curriculum be when the recurring assignment is print what we tell you to print?
One of the signs of downfall, IMHO, is when newsreaders began seeing themselves as “stars,” which inevitably led to the social and cocktail circuits, non-news related coverage, and schmoozing those that ultimately became their fuhrers, whose own lack of ethics or morality trickled down to the occupation.
And you notice how movies and TV adjoin with their myths portraying dedicated reporters who will report the sins of the powerful? I laugh at that crap.
Maybe this is the sword over the heads of the MSM.

True. Our new local newspaper seems like an amateur thing put out by retirees and housewives. I don't know what happened to the old paper or if it will hold out.
The regret is especially great now that the major media are dying out. AI is coming and that won't make things better.
The corporate media is dying. Independent journalists however are thriving.
For people that I know, sociology and communications major were a way into law school or marketing careers. Journalism majors saw journalism as their dream job, so of course they are disappointed.
