Walmart's policy requiring senior citizens to present a drivers license to purchase beer or wine is harassment and is blatantly discriminatory on the basis of age.

It really is publicly insulting, humiliating, and demeaning and probably discriminatory for elderly citizens to have to go through this charade at the hands of witless cashiers (young enough to be their grandchildren) whenever a bottle or two of wine is included with groceries. Where's the lawyer who would try this case?

It’s the law in NY State that has age-restricted purchases, require all stores, restaurants, etc. selling alcoholic beverages, beer and cigarettes are required to see a photo I.D., such as a driver’s license.

God has truly blessed those for whom showing an id to buy wine at WalMart is life’s biggest challenge.
No competent lawyer will take the case because policies that treats everyone the same are NOT descriminatory by definition. D’oh...

Not selling beer to 18 tear olds is discrimination based on age.

It could be worse, they could soon be wanting ID to make sure you are not too OLD to buy booze... lol

You're lucky, I recently tried to enter a brothel in Nevada where they check your age in inches and was denied entrance.
That's real embarrassment......

Here in FL, they just ask me for my birth date when I get beer. It’s CYA, so they don’t get sanctioned by a cop running a sting. JMO.

I mumble it to myself, and most times aloud for others to hear... “Fkng Ridiculous” every time I’m carded. And its not insulting or demeaning... its just a waste of time!!
In MI, they scan your ID at 7-11s to buy beer. I stopped buying from them completely!!

Wow. Are they pretending to be Christians there or something? Only reason I could think of for Walmart not selling beer and wine in NJ. Weird.

Can't sell it in grocery stores either. Only liquor stores and bars and restaurants with liquor license.

Showing a license to purchase beer or wine is the law in Tennessee regardless of age. Walmart, grocery stores, gas stations.
Ironically, the only place I haven’t been ID’ed is the liquor store.
