Walmart's policy requiring senior citizens to present a drivers license to purchase beer or wine is harassment and is blatantly discriminatory on the basis of age.

It really is publicly insulting, humiliating, and demeaning and probably discriminatory for elderly citizens to have to go through this charade at the hands of witless cashiers (young enough to be their grandchildren) whenever a bottle or two of wine is included with groceries. Where's the lawyer who would try this case?

Around these parts, Walgreens cards me.

We get a laugh out of it every time.

The only teen I’ve seen that looks like me was Benjamin Button.

Both QFC (Kroger) and Safeway in my Seattle neighborhood require ALL PERSONS purchasing alcohol or other age limited items to show ID.

That might be Washington state law?

No opinion on this.

LOL - probably, because I do not drink?

“Ok, but there is where we might differ (and I realize your comment was sarc). I couldn’t care less what people think of my Walmart patronage... or anything else, for that matter.”

Nice, and of course, I would never use that tag-line if I disagreed with you. It’s time for conservatives to STEP UP and admit that, even if liberals hate a particular corporation, we should still support it, unless the corporation itself is hard-Leftist (and then only maybe, depending on the circumstances).

Sorry but it is not discriminatory if it is required of everyone and yes if you are buying alcohol at a big box store you are going to have to produce id.. regardless of whether you just turned 21 or are 121.

If everyone is treated the same, and on these policies they are, there is no discrimination.

It may be stupid, but it’s not discriminatory

By removing all judgement and carding everyone regardless, it actually makes things better. No fights w/punks trying to buy for not looking old enough (and who don’t have ID). That situation might actually get a cashier killed nowadays. But if they card everyone....

The real solution is to not have a drinking age.

That’s my take on such a question. It would be great to be 17 again trying to buy booze.

Apparently it’s a new trend here to be the newest SAPP. I’ve seen it on several other Threads lately.

Let the store have their Bud Light and let them keep the rest of their inventory too. Shop in sane stores.

I prefer the Monterey Melt at Whataburger. In the good olde days, I was addicted to Jack in the Box’s Sourdough Jack & onion rings. I don’t get much fast food these days. Such is life.

It’s not only alcohol. My wife had a cough and I went to the local store to buy an 8 ounce bottle of Robitussin DM. The cashier demanded to see my DL even though I cannot be mistaken for being underage. Turns out it’s required by law due to illegal production of meth. Makes sense since I have been told multiple times I look like Heisenberg on “Breaking Bad”.

I don’t mind showing it to them, I get offended when they want to scan the 2D barcode.

Was out for a walk last week and stopped at a Bar & Grill to use the bathroom but the doorman would not let me in until I showed him my ID.

That's not surprising. In some bars there is a list behind the bar with today's names on it. If you find somebody on the list you call some guy and you get $100 or so when guys working for the guy you called show up at the bar.

Not seeing what happened to the guy you ratted out is a good idea.
