Buying Guide: Tactical Knives
When you are shopping for a tactical knife, there are several things you need to take into consideration. While finding the right one might seem overwhelming at first, this guide will help you get started.
Factors to Consider Before Selecting a Tactical Knife
Blade material
The blade of your tactical knife should be made from either high-quality stainless steel or titanium. Stainless steel offers superior toughness and edge retention, while titanium is lightweight and has excellent corrosion resistance. Both materials offer excellent durability and will last for years of reliable use.

Damascus steal knives..sharp as a scalpel..also from Amazon.
Yeah, I dunno.
A lot of what’s advertised on Amazon as “Damascus Steel”, isn’t.
Bugout is my EDC too
bkmk
I also have two. For some reason, the stainless steel san mai version never felt as good in my hands as the original. And you’re right about that near-indestructibility. Some of the early advertisements showed someone punching the knife through a car door. Another one showed the knife being hammered into a tree and then someone standing on it. Mine has a wicked razor edge on it.
I have no idea. Don’t even know what kind of edge it would take.
This sounds like an ai written article
Me too. Do you have a belt knife? I bought one off the Jason Hanson website, but it doesn’t have much of a finger guard. I really like the idea of a belt knife and I’m looking for something I feel more confident with.
Noss had a YouTube channel years ago that did knife destruction tests. I think it was taken down. The GI Tanto was ridiculously hard to destroy.
Those knives will get heavier and heavier the farther you have to carry them. I still carry the BUCK folding knife I bought in 1985. 2 1/2 inch blade.
Got a big box of others I picked up over time. Several would do as a carry knife if I did not have the BUCK, mostly Swiss Army Knives.
Yep, keep it simple, a Buck and a Swiss army cover the bases.
I have a old Kbar folding knife with a 5 inch blade. I bought it years ago at a yard sale for 50 cents. A little mineral oil to lubricate and a three way stone then steel it and it holds a nice edge.
Yep. Of course I have Leathermans etc., but after trying everything out there, Spyderco is all I use anymore for single blade EDC.
Love the G10 handles and am now addicted thumbhole deployment. Fast.
Gerber MKII. I have several, perfect balance! Got one for each kit, hunting packs, riding bag, bug out bags, SAR bags. Hard to find now and they are not cheap.
Bonus fun fact, it was highlighted when Bishop did the knife finger stab in the movie Aliens on Hudson in the first act. Which developed into the “Knife game” trend a few years ago.
Titanium for a knife blade? Uh, no.
Spyderco!
Can be opened _and_ closed with one hand!
:-)
YMMV
I sure do. Gotta keep those junipers trimmed for a well-scaped entry.
First impressions are important. :)
