Students have been booted out of a “luxury” housing block after the Home Office agreed a deal to rent the development for migrants.
Under government plans, more than 400 asylum seekers will move into student accommodation in Huddersfield that features a cinema room and gym.
The deal means that more than 150 students who had already signed tenancy agreements have been forced to find alternative accommodation a week before the start of the academic year.
It is understood that the block has been empty over the summer, which means the students do not need to be evicted.
The development, HD1, only a short walk from the University of Huddersfield campus, was previously advertised as “luxury student accommodation”.
Rooms were available to rent for up to £200 a week, with facilities including a games room, pool table, cinema room, gym and a washing room.

The owner’s get lots of federal dollars for a term and then their place is left filthy and damaged so I guess insurance pays to repair?? Why should the students move? Why can’t they bunk up with their pals? I see nothing wrong with housing a few dozen bearded Afgani dudes on the same floor as 18 year old girls. The thing that ought to really be alarming people is, unless there was language in their leases that permits this, a contract in the UK no longer appears to be worth the paper it’s printed on.
