The union representing approximately 150,000 workers at the Big Three U.S. automakers -- General Motors, Ford and Stellantis -- has voted to authorize a strike if no deal is reached amid ongoing contract negotiations.
Across the three companies, United Auto Workers union members voted a combined average of 97% in favor of a strike authorization, with votes still being tallied, the union said Friday. The vote does not mean a strike will be called, but that the union has the right to call one if they see fit.
"Our union's membership is clearly fed up with living paycheck-to-paycheck while the corporate elite and billionaire class continue to make out like bandits," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement. "The Big Three have been breaking the bank while we have been breaking our backs."

Ford is building a new electric car plant and the employees there will get less then half of what they get elsewhere.
In the 60’s, the US automakers made awesome cars. Cars that the buyers wanted. That all went to hell in the 70’s. Anyone remember the Ford Granada? What a POS. And the Chevrolet Chevette?
I thought Obama gave 51% of GM to the UAW.
For some models of cars there are hundreds of days of inventory on the lots. The UAW has picked the perfect time to strike from the perspective of the automakers. There will be no pressure from the public, no unfilled demand for cars and essentially no lost sales. There may be a few models in demand like Mustangs or Corvettes, but those buyers won’t mind waiting as those are not generally the daily driver cars. The only push to resolve the issue will be from the Democrats. We may see pressure like threats to tax bonuses or such but with demand so low there isn’t much I can see the President can bring to bear. So, strike!

At one time I was stuck with a Granada as my company car - which I was highly upset about until I heard of a competitor who stuck their field staff with Chevettes. Perspective! LOL
UAW please go on strike and stay out forever!
Unions are parasites to any business, but not very smart ones. At least real parasites don’t try and kill their host while unions have no such restraints.
I was shocked a few years ago when the trend of a three year payment plan for a new car moved up to five years. I have no idea how long the plans are for today but can the average American afford the prices of a new car today?
Just imagine the response you would have gotten in the late 60s and early 70s if you had predicted that Toyota and Volkswagen would be the world’s two top automakers.
Do UAW leadership know something we don’t? Going on strike against an industry that’s about to be nationalized?
True. VW’s with 1200 cc engines. Busses that would go from 0-60 in 5 minutes. Toyotas so small a normal human couldn’t fit in them.
While on strike, fewer batteries will be required. Doesn’t that save the planet?
Once upon a time the UAW represented a lot of Auto Workers and are now down to only 150,000, that should tell them something, but it doesn’t.
Maybe they can join forces with SAG and the WGA, what a deal that would be. LOL
I found out last night that the WGA has no Chief Counsel or a Chief Financial Officer for their strike and have a complete moron as their chief negotiator who knows absolutely nothing about what she is doing. They will not get anything they want except crumbs from the table.
The Chevette wasn’t as bad the the Vega with that Aluminum Engine that burned oil like it was going out of style.
The Vega could have been a pretty good economy car if it had had the right 4 cylinder engine in it.
All the big unions are striking now and if the democrats lose it will ensure inflation for the next president.
There are stacking all the desks to make you pay remember it isn’t Trump it’s you the democrats blame.
Like he said its not me they are after he’s right.
Better buy your ICE or Hybrid now and take good care of it. Used car prices are skyrocketing already with tons of EVs rusting on dealer lots.
A friend of mine had a Vega. He and I put on an extra oil cooler on it. Helped with the burning and leaking.
Another dog was the Chevy Corvair. Split case engine. Leaked oil like hell. My parents had one and after a year, they got rid of it.
Hi.
What do these strikes have in common? Rail , package and auto?
Transportation and the fact that Biden will pay the union bosses to avert this one too.

"How much do Uaw employees earn on average in the United States? Uaw pays an average salary of $171,022 and salaries range from a low of $147,024 to a high of $199,478. Individual salaries will, of course, vary depending on the job, department, location, as well as the individual skills and education of each employee."It seems to come down to where one looks, whether it is all union labor or only the Big Three....Source: https://www.salary.com/research/company/uaw-salary

I remember seeing something about a janitor in the UAW working for GM in the90’s. The janitor was making $50/hr. Of course he’d been there for 20 years… as a janitor. SMDH.
Are they unionized in Mexico? Shouldn’t they be?
And don’t forget Gremlins and Pacers.
