Day 546: 24 Aug
FOOLED & DESTROYED. Ukrainian STORM SHADOW Strike WIPE OUT
Russian S-400 Batteries in Crimea Russia ‘s war agenda has witnessed dramatic moments in recent days. While the news of Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death following the crash of his private jet causes turmoil in Moscow, the Ukrainians do not allow the clashes to cool. While fierce clashes still continued in Zaporizhia, Dnipro and Kherson, Kiev turned its course back to the Crimea.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out an incredible offensive operation on the peninsula. While the most important air defense system of the Russians was targeted in the attack, the tension in Crimea increased significantly with the effect of the attacks a few days ago. If you remember, we witnessed the flight of Ukrainian drones in Sevastopol city of Crimea and Kerch Bridge recently.
Today, we’re going to tell you that Ukrainian forces are refocusing on Crimea, and how the Russians have buried their most important military goal in history. Here are all the real and mind-blowing details about this stunning attack in Crimea. The Rybar Telegram channel, close to the Russian General Staff and the Ministry of Defense, assured that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had already been actively monitoring military installations on Cape Tarkhankut for several weeks. According to Rybar, Ukrainian forces first launched unmanned aerial vehicles that dispersed air defense fire during the attack, and then launched three missiles, possibly anti-ship, from the sea.
Some of the Ukrainian reconnaissance aircraft, which later distracted the S-400s, were destroyed, while another part easily and unnoticed penetrated Russia’s best anti-aircraft missile system, marked the target and made it possible to hit the Russian air defense system. In the final phase of the offensive operation, Russia’s long and medium-range S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system was destroyed near the village of Olenivka on Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea. As a result of the explosion, the facility itself, the missiles and the personnel stationed on it were completely destroyed.
While this whole process was taking place, a total of seven explosions were reported in Olenivka. It’s not immediately clear where the latest system-destroying attack came from or what specific weapon was used to do it. But Olenivka is in the attack area of a long-range missile, which is in Ukraine’s arsenal. So the Storm Shadows SCALPs, supplied by the British and French to the Ukrainian army, which offer an impressive operational range of 155 miles, may have been used in this attack.
Military sources estimate that the Ukrainians fired missiles or attacked the Russian S-400 missile system and the Russian military facility in this peninsula city at least seven times with drones. In support of this data, Local Telegram channels admitted that the Russian military facility on Cape Tarkhankut was hit. In addition, Petro Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, confirmed the reports that Russian S-400s and military facilities were hit. On the other hand, striking videos of the extraordinary moments of the destruction of the S-400s were shared on social media.
The first critical videos of the destruction of Russia ‘s best air defense system were reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. In the video, the S-400 missile system exploded so violently that indeed many parts of the system were scattered around. Shocking recent reports of such losses to Russia have also been published in the wake of this stunning attack in Crimea. Although Russia lost an overwhelming amount of military equipment over the course of 18 months of war, it had mostly managed to keep its precious S-400s out of harm’s way. According to the open-source intelligence site Oryx, the Moscow army had lost only three S-400 launchers and a command post for the system. However, with these latest attacks, the 4th S-400 defense system, which Russia defined as invincible, was also deleted from the war.
Ukrainian authorities also shared important assessments about this critical attack, in which the Russian Armed Forces lost the S-400 air defense system. On this issue, Andriy Yusov, the representative of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence, stated that the destruction of this anti-aircraft missile system will cause problems for the invaders and will accelerate the liberation of the Ukrainian peninsula that Russia has annexed from its occupation. In fact, given the limited number of such systems in Russia ‘s arsenal, this can be described as a painful action against the air defense of the Russian army. Because the S-400 Triumph system is one of the most expensive weapon systems in the world.
they’ve come and gone...not a real big deal...if you look at the whole picture

The mysterious circumstances surrounding the downing of a plane in Moscow and the death of a top Russian figure, St. Petersburg businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, has led to speculation about the involvement of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Many believe that Putin ordered the attack due to Prigozhin’s growing power and
influence. The incident has raised questions about the future of Putin’s regime and the
impact it will have on Russia’s military capabilities.
Former British Army Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon says: “I think Putin’s really made a big mistake here, because you’ve got between 5,000 and 8,000 fighters. These are mercenaries, these Wagner people. Most of them are criminals, murderers and rapists taken out of Russian jails.”

Then Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna took up the song: “Our enemies will vanish, like dew in the sun”. Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra tweeted: “And we too shall rule, brothers, in a free land of our own”.
He was followed by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis: “We’ll lay down our souls and bodies to attain our freedom”. Next came Tobias Billström, the head of Swedish diplomacy: “And you’ll show that you, brothers, are of Cossack descent”. (Bielström was the only one who changed the words of the anthem so as not to speak on his own behalf.)
North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani tweeted: “Brothers, stand together in a bloody fight, from the Sian to the Don”, followed by UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly: “We will not allow others to rule in our native land”.
They were joined by the French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who “sang” together: “The Black Sea will smile and Grandfather Dnipro will rejoice/ For in our Ukraine, fortune shall flourish again!”
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani continued: “Our persistence and our sincere toils will be rewarded”; then EU diplomacy president Josep Borrel: “And freedom’s song will resound throughout all of Ukraine”, and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly: “Echoing off the Carpathians and rumbling across the steppes”.
And US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded: “Ukraine’s fame and glory will be known among all nations”.
Gitanas Nauseda, President of Lithuania, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day on Sophia Square in Kyiv, delivering speeches in Ukrainian.

The United States does not yet have comprehensive information about the situation with the crash of the plane that may have been carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, but believes that he was most likely killed.
SOURCE: European Pravda, citing a speech by Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder made at a briefing on Thursday
QUOTE:
“Our initial assessment is that it’s likely Prigozhin was killed. We are continuing to assess the situation,” Ryder said in response to a question about the assessment of the situation with the leader of the Wagnerists.
“There’s no information to suggest there was a surface-to-air missile takedown of the plane. According to our assessment, this information is not accurate,” he added.
Details: The Pentagon spokesman declined to provide other details, saying that the United States has no additional information about the likely death of Prigozhin.
BACKGROUND:
-Earlier, the Reuters news agency, citing two American officials, reported that the plane, whose passengers indicated the top of the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC), could have been shot down by a missile from the territory of Russia.
-The New York Times and The Associated Press, citing informed sources, wrote that Western intelligence agencies consider the explosion on board to be the probable cause of the plane crash with the head of the Wagner PMC.

It was a raid. That’s how raids are: They come; they strike; they leave.
Successful raid against a radar/SAM site in a strategically important location. Russia’s inability to defend against these kinds of raids highlights the Russian struggle to deny the Black Sea to Ukraine.
The destruction of this radar and SAM make it easier to send more cruise missiles into Russian infrastructure.

Ukraine has marked Independence Day with a ‘special operation’ in Crimea
BBC News

Ukraine has claimed its troops briefly landed overnight in the occupied Crimea peninsula, as the country marks 32 years of its independence.
All objectives of the “special operation” were achieved without any casualties, the defense ministry said.
It added that during a firefight in Olenivka and Mayak, western Crimea, “the enemy suffered losses”.
Russia illegally annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, eight years before Moscow launched a full-scale invasion.
The Kremlin has so far made no public comments on the reported Ukrainian operation.
In a post on Telegram, the main intelligence department of Ukraine’s defense ministry claimed responsibility for Thursday’s operation. It said the Ukrainian Navy provided the support.
It said that “special units on watercraft landed on the shore” before engaging in combat with Russian troops stationed in the area.
“Also, the state flag was flying again in the Ukrainian Crimea,” the statement added.
The intelligence department posted a short video purportedly showing Ukrainian soldiers raising the national flag. Gunfire sounds can be heard in the footage.
Ukraine’s Suspilne television channel reported that the skirmish involved aircraft and navy ships. A Russian Telegram channel had also reported of fighting in that area.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released an Independence Day message on X, formerly known as Twitter, rallying his countrymen to help maintain the country’s independence.
“In this fight, everyone counts. Because the fight is for something that is important to everyone,” Mr Zelensky said.
Independence Day has gained increased significance among Ukrainians since Russia’s full-scale invasion started in February 2022, according to a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. It is now the country’s third most important holiday, behind only Easter and Christmas.
Ukraine launched its counter-offensive in June, attempting to expel the Russians from land they had captured in the east and south of the country.
An analysis by BBC Verify showed the gains in terms of reclaimed land size have been small. However, analysts at the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) say the advances near Robotyne and Urozhaine are “likely tactically significant because of the structure of Russian defensive lines”. They also note that Russian forces have dedicated significant effort to hold the settlements.
Russia has also accused Ukraine of drone attacks, the most recent of which was on 23 August. It hit a skyscraper under construction in Moscow.
Ukraine’s claim of landing its troops in Crimea came a day after it emerged that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the mercenary group that fought with Russia in the war, was on the passenger list of a private jet that crashed after taking off from Moscow.
Mr Prigozhin had led a failed mutiny against Russian President Vladimir Putin in June.
“ they’ve come and gone...not a real big deal...if you look at the whole picture.”
It was a raid. That’s how raids are: They come; they strike; they leave.

True dat. But a real raid actually strikes a ACTUAL target.
“True dat. But a real raid actually strikes a ACTUAL target.”
It did: Occupied Crimea.
That it wasn’t significant in an operational sense, it was very significant in a psychological and political sense. They are saying: “We came; we landed; we engaged; we raised our flag. And we can do it again.”

Command reforms 92nd Brigade

Ukrainian 92nd Mechanized Brigade has been reformed as an assault brigade
Rumors appeared last month that there’s intention to reform Ukrainian 92nd Mechanized Brigade as an assault brigade. Today, the information was officially confirmed by the brigade’s staff. The famous 92nd Mechanized Brigade of Ukrainian Ground Forces is now 92nd Assault Brigade.
The main differences between mechanized and assault brigade is the composition and specialization. A standard Ukrainian mechanized brigade has three (some additional fourth as well) mechanized battalions, while an assault brigade has two mechanized and two assault battalions.
Assault battalions specialize, as the name suggests, on storming enemy positions and only soldiers of certain age and training can be part of assault units. Mechanized units can be used for offensive operation as well, but their main tasks are holding designated areas and repelling enemy attacks.
Ukrainian 92nd Brigade participated in several offensive operations, even led some of them. The change is a logical step to differ the brigade from others.
Soldier of the brigade wrote a song about the unit on this occasion, you can listen to it on the official page.
