Roark Capital, which owns restaurants Arby's and Buffalo Wild Wings, is nearing a deal to buy sandwich chain Subway for about US$9.6 billion (S$13.01 billion), the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday (Aug 21).
A deal could be finalised this week, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
"Subway does not intend to make any further public comment regarding the process until the transaction has been completed," the company told Reuters in an emailed statement.

I’ll buy a footlong. Someone else will have to put up the remaining amount.
what a deal. I’ll bet for another million they’ll throw in a guy named Jarred along with some fake tuna.
Hey, that could be an idea. A Subway happy meal, with chips and a shiv.
Wonder what the Pedo-spokesguy (Jared?) in prison would say.
And I wonder if this will turn out like when Snapple was bought for a hugely excessive price.
Well, let’s hope that US Gov doesn’t decide to fund another bail-out at taxpayer expense.
Haven’t eaten there in years.
The price of good subs is ridiculous nowadays. For the price of a single sandwich, I can get a pound of deli turkey and eat for a week.
I agree. The other day I saw a sub advertised for $29.99!!!
Getting a foot long at Subway is worth $5. It's not really worth more than that.
Subway was pretty good when it came on. Hasn’t been that good in recent years.
I miss Quiznos...
Subway hasn’t been worth a darn for decades now. I don’t see that changing.
You had to bring a pretty fat wallet to eat lunch at Quizno's. High prices and low quantity is what killed them.
I don’t remember them costing so much; I think expanding too quickly is what killed them.
Watched a documentary on that sick mofo not too long ago. Beyond evil. And the people he was involved with were using their own kids. So gross. The girls seemed to have dealt with it and have a decent life now. He should have been riding the lightning.
I gave up on subway many years ago when I realized how much they gyp people on the meat on their subs.
Or do you just eat a slice of turkey a day?
I’ve watched them make a lot of sandwiches. They pile on the meat. Perhaps it’s changed from years ago.
I usually get the foot long tuna & make two meals from it.
It is still around, but only in 400 locations.
Their sandwiches were wonderful. Really good meats.
Quiznos is okay, too.
They had good soup, too. I always got the Broccoli-Cheese.
We don’t have one near here, now. We used to have two in the areas we frequent.
