Why not DeSantis? (Vanity)
08/16/2023 | Me, me, me

I could vote for the man, not over Trump or some others.

(But definitely over Christie, Hutchinson, Pence, Haley, Hurd, Scott)

Fill me in...Why is he fading? Personality? Policy positions? Political skills? All the above?

That's Trump's problem, he has horrible judgement when it comes to listening to people.

Well to be fair, which of them have accomplished as much as he has?

That trip to North Korea. Do you think anyone short of Dwight Eisenhower would have the guts to walk across that border?

An interesting article, but I don’t see anything substantive that Rove is actually working with Trump.

I didn't even bother to read it. I took Golden Eagle at his word that it meant what he said it meant.

Also, the setup for "SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THAT IMBECILE KARL ROVE!!!!" was just too good for me to resist.

I agree with some of those criticisms.

You are welcome.

I think his efforts to stabilize North Korea and his attempt to appeal to their vanity and greed were also a better effort than i've seen any other president make.

He tries too hard to be mini-Trump. Why get mini Trump when full blown crazy Trump is available. I think his crap with Disney and LGBT stuff is a non starter with a lot of northerners; they simply don’t care about that because our schools are run differently and big businesses like that don’t “own” a state.

I was in Fl last fall and I saw a lot of ads for him. I was impressed. His ads out of NH kind of suck.

Trump calls for nationwide ‘school choice’ program

School choice, while a great idea, isn't something that is federally controlled, which was my exact point. Trump wants federal control of schools.

Your understanding of Trump's policies on education are incorrect Trump said he would dissolve the Dept of Ed because they were spending more than other countries & are results were worse. He selected DeVoss because she strongly belived in returning control to communities...

"DeVos will work with President Trump to advance equal opportunities for quality education for all students. DeVos firmly believes that neither the ZIP code in which a child lives nor a child's household income should be the principal determinant of his or her opportunity to receive a world-class education. As secretary, she will advocate for returning control of education to states and localities, giving parents greater power to choose the educational settings that are best for their children and ensuring that higher education puts students on the path to successful careers.

"As secretary, I don't think the Department of Education in Washington should have more power over your decisions than you do," Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said last week to a cheering crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. "I took this job because I want to return power in education back to where it belongs: with parents, communities and states."

List the handouts.

Trump wants to put social security in Al Gore's Lockbox, rather than reform it as needed. Trump issued executive orders for free rent and free college. He believes in subsidies for Ethanol. He gave handouts to farmers based on new taxes on goods from China, rather than using that money to cut taxes for everyone. Again off the top of my head.

List the controls.

Wants to dictate to local school districts how they choose their principals. Wants to control their curriculum from the federal level. Claims he wants to require school choice, again from the federal level, which would be quickly rescinded and the opposite policy put in place if/when Democrats take control.

Nome others.

Exec orders for free rent, free college. Exec orders for Vaccines, GMO foods, 5G, and AI. 15 minute cities as part of new his campaign. One of his own children is an official WEF Young Globalist Leader.

Who had a better plan March, 2020?

RFK Jr, for sure. The problem is, as of now, Trump STILL supports the "vaccines" and "gain of function."

A few days ago...Trump position on education is unchanged...
“I will return power to the parents of our country,” Trump said. “Who would have thought we would have ever had that? Can you imagine that? We will return power to parents. Of course, you want to return the power, especially when it comes to schools. You will have your power back. I will close the Department of Education and move all education back to the states where it belongs.”

I agree with some of those criticisms.

Thank you. My goal is, one or the other:

1. Pull Trump to the right, where conservatives can easily support him.

2. Vote for someone else, if he's stuck that far to the left.

Fawning all over Trump, and constantly comparing him to a god-like existence, isn't going to help #1.

Again, you clearly don't get it. That is a tyrannical action, to wrest control from local districts, to enforce whatever the current power in DC wants to inflict on them. Trump may, or may not, have a noble idea, but once federal control is in place, and enforced, it can be easily abused by Democrats in the future. You obviously haven't thought this out, in the least, and are just cheerleading for Trump because it sounds good on the surface.

While I initially didn’t see a big deal with him running, it’s clear by his poor performance that he should’ve held off until 2028. Not just due to the backlash from Trump supporters, but he also hasn’t been a good campaigner and could use more work in that area. Florida loved him because of what he did, not his speeches or ability to campaign. And that’s simply not enough when going out into hostile waters. He needs to work on his weak areas and he needs to do a much better job of assembling a good team. Because they’ve come out with some dumb crap.

Compare to Vivek who is able to handle such things brilliantly. I’m not saying he’s the best choice, but he’s able to handle a hostile press.

“ Trump said he would dissolve the Dept of Ed ”

Presidents do not create or dissolve cabinet departments. Congress does that, and the Department of Education is a money machine that showers dollars on Congress.

Nice try.

That’s the trouble with off my head rather than researching before you post.
Your portrayal that the tariffs on China should have been used for tax relief:
#1 The trade deficits damaged America and strengthened China. President Trump imposed tariffs to pressure China to adopt fair trading practices. China retaliated by cutting back on imports from America’s farmers. That is why the farmers were subsidized with the tariff money. Otherwise the farmers would have failed and abandoned their farms.
#2 President Trump accomplished the largest gross tax cuts in American history. That was against opposition from Congress. With more cooperation the tax cuts would have been larger still.
Trump moratorium on eviction was during the pandemic.
I suppose you would have had a better plan to get through that period?

The only free that Trump established in colleges was free speech.

The rest of your comment is invention and disinformation.

Trump suggested building Freedom cities: “These Freedom Cities will reopen the frontier, reignite American imagination, and give hundreds of thousands of young people and other people, all hardworking families, a new shot at homeownership,” Trump said in a video announcing his plan on Truth Social.
Never Trump critics used the opportunity to lie about the plan and pretend the idea was related to the urban engineering drive for 15 min cities, a disastrous tyrannical transformation which deserves to fail big.

That is disingenuous.
Trump is saying that is a priority of his. He confirmed that priority by choosing DeVoss who shared that his goals. Presidents have to work with Congress to get their priorities enacted. Anyone who understands balance of power as you do knows that when a President says he would like to close the Dept of Ed, there is a process involved not a magic wand.
