Desperate residents are looting businesses and robbing people at gunpoint, Maui locals say

Desperate survivors in Lahaina are robbing people at gunpoint as they wait for food and shelter in the aftermath of the Maui wildfires, Hawaiian locals said.

"There's some police presence. There's some small military presence, but at night people are being robbed at gunpoint," co-owner of a Lāhainā bar called The Dirty Monkey, Matt Robb, told Business Insider.

Robb added: "People are raped and pillaged. I mean, they're going through houses - and then by day it's hunky-dory. So where is the support? I don't think our government and our leaders, at this point, know how to handle this or what to do."

Fox News Digital reached out to the County of Maui for information about the alleged looting but did not hear back by time of publication.

Residents spoke to local news outlets as they await rescue crews to deliver food, water, diapers, and other necessities, many who lost everything are growing desperate.

Owner of restaurant Coconut Caboose Jeremy Aganos, one of the businesses that survived the fires, told KITV it is "utter chaos" for those seeking aid. His business was attacked by looters, he said.

Aganos set up a GoFundMe for the restaurant's losses.

Another Lahaina resident, Barrett Procell, told the news station he and his wife are now homeless and wearing donated clothes. He said he understands the desperate measures some Lahaina survivors are taking.

"When your children are here starving after almost burning to death and the police won’t let people drive in to give you necessities, you may turn to desperate measures. It is unfortunate people are turning to looting right now, but it’s about helping them and not villainizing them," he said.

One of the conditions for Hawaii to become a State was they had to stop eating people.

Yes, most definitely yes. Once in full control and power, the commie’s would put an end to all violence, unlawful crowd gatherings and free speech. Looters would be shot on sight. Other offenders would be put in dungeons without a trial.

And people would still be starving and fleeing the fires.

“When entire towns get wiped out (this fire, hurricanes, earthquakes) one needs to be prepared to last on their own for weeks.”

I live in hurricane country. I’m totally prepared to survive a few weeks without outside food or water, but if my house, truck, and everything around me is wiped out by a tornado I’m screwed. Even if I had stuff stored somewhere else, I wouldn’t be able to get there due to no transportation and I guarantee that fallen trees would block the roads. How do you prepare for that?

The Democrats in Hawaii can’t even mobilize the guard.

That fire moved so fast a lot of folks didn’t have the chance to go back into their homes .. for anything. They had to run to the shore and jump in the water.

Horrible rumor is that many children were home and parents were trying to get to them. I pray that is untrue.

We ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait until the day comes in America when EBT cards stop working and hyperinflation kicks in. From the look of things that day’s coming soon.

“””Just because you are well prepared won’t insulate you from those who are not...”””

Yes, it does, I don’t recall ever seeing a post-emergency situation here where simply shooting or shooting at looters wasn’t as far as anyone had to go to protect their home in the most extreme case, and simply showing arms was enough in almost every case, as rare as those cases are of an on-site home-owner actually having to confront looters face to face.

“When entire towns get wiped out (this fire, hurricanes, earthquakes) one needs to be prepared to last on their own for weeks.

Of course when all of your supplies are burned up....”

Yes, there’s the rub. I thought I was prepared when anarchists burned my community. Lol. I lost $50,000 of “preparedness”.

I didn’t have time to get my GO BAG! I was hungry and terrified more often than not before I got a safe place to sleep and “normal” never returned.

You can’t prepare for this kind of devistation. And they know it!!!!

Will Cane said this morning all assistance has been from private citizens and group. Federal assistance seems non existence.

Give the detailed scenarios and we can supply the answers, although the people who were below the water level when the levee broke in New Orleans make for a worst-case scenario for a prepper, that one seemed to have called for a bug-out bag and a canoe for the normal prepper, with maybe an Alaskan style cache shack on stilts for the radical, hard-core survivalist living in that below water level area.

” I have been running scenarios through my head. What would I do if I had nothing but the clothes I’m wearing? No house, no food, no supplies, no weapons, no things and no place to defend, and pretty much the same for all of my neighbors. The first thing I would do is GTFO and find a relative or a friend.”

If you can get out... No one is prepared for evacuation traffic. After the Alameda fire, it was terrifying trying to drive out of the valley.

Your friends and relatives will likely be in the same situation as you. They can’t or won’t help you. I thought I was prepared..even had extra meds that anyone in my family might ever need! I had food and supplies for everyone but the one thing I didn’t think about was where I would go if I had to leave.

Almost three years later, my friends have all passed. Some from the aftermath of that urban wildfire. I’m stuck in a firezone and it was 110 and smokey yesterday.

There is still no place to go when the next fire comes. And it surely will. I don’t think I would run again.

“That’s why the first thing you grab are your guns before they burn up.”

We were purposely given NO WARNING, NO EVACUATION from the Alameda urban wildfire. The county decided we were all senior CITIZENS and would get confused, so they let us sit there until the flames were on us. I had the choice of grabbing the cat or emptying the gun safe. I left my lifelong collection if unregistered guns in a safe to burn except for one. That night I spent in a parking lot 50 miles away. About midnight I was surrounded by
4 big black clad masked goons on motorcycles. One was slapping the hood of my car. I suppose the Trump bumper stickers attracted them. I slapped that pistol on the dashboard and screamed, “C’mon!”
Don’t underestimate some old woman who just lost everything!
The cowards left.
Another struggle was all the scammers who thought we all had insurance money and they wanted it. Lol ,it took months before I got insurance money and that was another sick joke.

It’s worse...I have been seeing videos and reading posts from locals who are saying that the State and FEMA are prohibiting the unaffected locals from other parts of the island, from bringing in supplies or food. One video showed a community group prepared hundreds of meals for the displaced victims in Lahaina and the government folks would not let them pass because they didn’t have a “commercial kitchen license.” The government folks were also confiscating supplies and prepackaged food items from the support groups trying to help. To get around the roadblocks that are keeping private groups from bringing in aid...locals have organized boat and jet ski aid where they can get to affected area by boat, then the jet skis are being used to shuttle the supplies from the small boats to shore. One such has been organized at Kahana, between Kaanapali and Kapalua. It’s just sickening. The government is doing all it can to prevent help from getting in.

Will Cain said that private planes with private airports are delivering stuff. Churches are staging points for meals, etc. He talked of two young women in their 20’s are organizing it with a couple of pilots. Looks like Cain is reporting a lot on how disorganized things are as far as government is concerned.

“ My emotional separation from “America” must be complete…”

I think I’ve long passed that barrier and am all the way over to enemy of the government territory.

The residents of Maui would be best served by detaining agents of the state (police, military), declaring independence from the state and from the United States, and letting the private help in. Then kicking the state and federal government out permanently. A pipe-dream in this day of fascist control, but if they really want to avoid being pillaged and destroyed a second time, they’d force the governments out.

It is not enough to have your own preparations.

It is critical that they be kept secret and you live a low profile lifestyle.
