Man forced to ditch Ford EV truck during family road trip to Chicago: ‘biggest scam of modern times’

A Canadian man is calling electric vehicles the "biggest scam of modern times" after his frustrating experience with an electric truck.

Dalbir Bala, who lives in the Winnipeg area, bought a Ford F-150 Lightning EV in January for $115,000 Canadian dollars (around $85,000 U.S. dollars), plus tax. Ford said the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) on the vehicle is $77,495 U.S. dollars.

He told FOX Business he needed the vehicle for his work, but also wanted something suitable for recreational activities such as driving to his cabin or going fishing. He also wanted an environmentally friendly vehicle as owning one is "responsible citizenship these days."

But Bala was quickly hit with the reality of owning and operating an EV soon after the purchase. The vehicle compelled him to install two chargers – one at work and one at home – for $10,000. To accommodate the charger, he had to upgrade his home’s electric panel for $6,000.

In all, Bala spent more than $130,000 – plus tax.

Not long after the purchase, Bala got into a minor accident which, he said, required "light assembly" on the front bumper. Bala took the vehicle to the body shop and did not get it back for six months. He said no one from Ford answered his email or phone calls for help.

The limitations of the EV truck became even more apparent when Bala embarked on a chaotic 1,400-mile road trip to Chicago.

Fast charging stations – which only charge EV’s up to 90% – cost more than gas for the same mileage. On the family’s first stop in Fargo, North Dakota, it took two hours and $56 to charge his vehicle from 10% to 90%. The charge was good for another 215 miles.

It’s like a form of insanity that I cannot comprehend.

Some people have to actually touch a hot stove in order to learn that you should not touch a hot stove. A smaller number of people have to touch the hot stove more than once in order to learn the same lesson. I'm guessing that anybody named Dalbir Bala did not have parents who loved him enough to teach him things when he was young. He probably has to touch that hot stove 3 or 4 times to get the message.

Just drove our 2024 Honda CR-V off the lot Tuesday. Gas only. We looked at electric but there were too many ifs and buts from the dealers.

Musk will dump Tesla at a big profit before that point in time comes. One of the “Big Three” will pony up a tone of cash and buy him out and they will be the ones owning the problems.

Musk will be off to his next adventure by that point.

Look at it on the bright side. You can impress your liberal friends at dinner parties.

I don’t see how. Not if your EV needs a 4 hour charge and therefore you never make it to the liberal dinner party.

Electric vehicles would make sense if we had a real battery breakthrough. Today’s batteries are ill suited for the purpose. You need a battery that doesn’t need rare earth metals, has a high power to weight ratio, charges very quickly with a simple charger, and is safe. Electric engines are far less complicated than internal combustion engines.

Imagine what your future electric bills are going to look like:

“Base load affected facilities that follow the CCS pathway must meet a second phase standard based on 90% capture of CO2, using CCS, by 2035”

“Baseload affected facilities that follow the low-GHG hydrogen pathway must meet a second phase standard based on co-firing 30% low-GHG hydrogen by volume by 2032 and a third phase standard based on cofiring 96% by volume low-GHG hydrogen by 2038”

My wife wants to walk around for 10-15 minutes to stretch her legs every 200 miles. 10-15 minutes is how long it takes to charge at a fast charger. So our EV is conducive to our driving habits.
