SEQUIM — Jesse Marunde, who long aspired to be the world’s strongest man, died suddenly this week at the age of 27.
Mr. Marunde, who was born in Glennallan, Alaska, but raised in Sequim, collapsed and died Wednesday night while working out at his gym in Sequim.
Chuck Marunde said his son died of a heart attack. Autopsy results will be known in about a month.
Mr. Marunde made an international splash in the weightlifting world with a second-place finish in the World’s Strongest Man competition in China in 2005. He won a local strongman event this spring in Sequim, and won the 2001 Washington Strongman contest, among many other events. He was 6 feet 5 and weighed about 300 pounds.

He probably took a ton of steroids, and RIP Jesse, but some liberals on other boards are saying, young athletes die all the time.
IMO, there has been uptick of non-steroidal sports deaths.
Mods pull at your discretion.
was he working out at the gym with anyone code named “suddenly”?
asking for a friend who uses steroids and fears suddenly.
He died in 2007
There are millions of obits, and most have pictures. Please get started with the ones in England, maybe even before 1940, because I think all FReepers want to see if their teeth were always as bad as we've heard.
Why are we reading about an event from 16 years ago?
Having taken testosterone I can attest that it will spike your blood pressure. Add in caffeinated “energy” drinks and other supplements that also spike your blood pressure and you’re already on the edge. Then, how much did he abuse them? My usage was under a doctor’s control and monitoring and the BP difference was notable.
Idk
I watched him on WSM.
This dude was not taking doctor administered Testosterone Cypionate.
If one takes test, they should give blood every month due to increased thickness of blood via increased platelet count.
Well back in 07 if anybody died in " mainstream sports" died suddenly", it was probably a drug overdose.
Now it seems, like a sports person dies every other day and that they weren't drug addicts.
I think it’s because the Kung Flu vaccines weren’t around yet and a strong, healthy athletic young man died suddenly.
> Chuck Marunde said his son died of a heart attack.
The politically correct term is “died of a coincidence.”
Very well played!

Before this goes off the vax rails…,
The intense stress that powerlifting puts on a heart can result in a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection type of heart attack.
We are not talking about the stress you get when going to the gym. I mean the stress lifting so much weight that no one else in the gym can work out.
This is not your normal “vax athlete heart attack.”
Headline makes it sound like some third-world dictator died pumping iron. I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t name him.
I don't know what that means.
It means you’re using all the plates.
Could be a problem with the earth’s gravitational field.
That’s heavy.
