DeSantis says Trump can't win in a general election: 'Those are just the realities'
Fox News ^ | July 31, 2023 | Ashley Carnahan

Posted on 07/31/2023 9:18:10 PM PDT by Golden Eagle

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sat down with "Special Report" on Monday for a wide-ranging interview, offering insight into whether former President Donald Trump can win in a general election.

DeSantis said he doesn’t believe Trump can win in 2024 because there are "too many voters who just aren't going to vote for him going forward."

"I saw it in Florida in my re-election. You know, I won the first time by less than a percent, second time by ‘20. Why did people vote against me in ‘18 but then voted for me in ‘22? The number one reason they gave was because of Trump."

"Because in ‘18 they said that they were voting against Trump. Voting against me, to vote against Trump, even though they didn't know much about me," he said. The Florida governor handily won re-election in November 2022, defeating Democratic candidate Charlie Christ by nearly 20 points.

DeSantis also told host Bret Baier that Trump can’t win crucial states like Georgia and Arizona in a general election.

"The polls that come out… I beat Biden in Georgia. Trump doesn't. I beat Biden soundly in Arizona. Trump doesn't. Those are just the realities," he said.

"And I also think in terms of the base, you need to have a cadre of personnel. If you want to slay this administrative state, you've got to be disciplined, you've got to be focused, and you've got to have people surrounding you that are going to go and support the mission. I think the former president would have a very difficult time getting the type of personnel to join the administration that you would need to actually bring this stuff to fruition," he continued.

Why is DeSantis trailing Trump by 40 points?

Too early. The polls are unreliable.

“No, only fools want revenge.”

Really?

“Revenge is mine, saith the Lord”

The revenge we want is justice, as when a murderer is sentenced in a court of law.

Fool? What kind of person willingly opens the door to evildoers, traitors, and just smiles.

DeSantis is right. The anti Trump vote destroyed the “Red Waves” of 2018,20,and 22. Trump brings out the anti Trump voter by the millions.

That DeSantis barely beat a black, self described, anti cop socialist for governor in 2018 after he was endorsed by Trump in the normally conservative state of Florida is a prime example of that

When you state that Trump has a low level of support among republicans I assume you have a basis for that opinion. I outlined where I thought you might be informing your opinion. If you have some other source I’d love to hear. I was unable to think of one.

IMO Trump support is deeper & wider than ever. I postulate that is because America is doing significantly worse and the results of leftist policies are becoming undeniable. The deep distrust of the Government & NIH/Pharmy after COVID lies, election fraud & coverups is sky high. Trump is widely seen as the only one willing to take on the left/globalists and to demand transparency.

Perhaps because you outspent a weak opponent, who changed from R to D, by 7x in 2020...

You are sort of right. Trump brings out the fake vote/the phoney vote/the middle of the night/the days after election vote. That’s how much the left hate & fear him. The left’s enemy/bogeyman is our champion.

Quite agree. Trump and Hillary have one thing in common: they both have large groups of the populace that have abject hatred towards them. Many Republicans voted for Trump (including me) in 2016 because a Hillary Presidency was so unthinkable. The fact that is was kind of close, surprised me. After Trump got in, I was pleased with his performance until Covid basically took him out at the knees. Had we averted the pandemic, he’d be President today and no amount of fraud would have stopped him.

Now we have a very weakened Dem candidate but the abject hatred and his legal crap (contrived or real, doesn’t matter) will make the General election and battleground states very difficult. That is even without the expected fraud. People will be voting on raw emotion and not their checkbook. One thing the Rats are great at is stirring emotions. Biden doesn’t even need to campaign, and probably won’t even bother.

We can match the cheating, which is against our principles, or try some lawfare ahead of the game, but sitting back and assuming enough Americans are tired of inflation and will just vote GOP is foolhardy.

“Trump can’t win. That’s why the entrenched Republican losers and the Democrats are going all out to destroy the guy.”

That is one way to explain why they are stacking charges.

Another explanation is Democrats are trying to weld most of the Republican base to Trump - with the exception of 15 or 20 percent who go fishing on election day because they didn’t like being attacked.

That should reelect Biden.

Ever think of that?

Yep.

The “electability” argument is always the same old routine… when the voters aren’t doing what the establishment wants start this argument. Sometimes when you have low turnout primaries you do get candidates that have no chance.. it does happen, but more often than not it’s just attempts to scare the peons back onto the plantation.

However, even when you have that happen, the counter argument that if only you had supported X in the primary we could have won, is an impossible one to take seriously, especially when it’s clear the candidate they are telling you is more electable has the backing and funding of the establishment. If that candidate is so much better, why could they not manage to win the primary? It wasn’t from lack of funding or name recognition etc.. so if the party machine is behind them and they can’t win their primary it’s hard to argue they would win a general.

Desantis is a rather extreme example of this. Clearly the GOP establishment does not want Trump, they worked against him openly and nefariously in 2020. They have been trying to pump up Desantis for close to a year now as their alternative to him… and the voters just aren’t buying what they are selling. The more he is actually seen by the voters the lower he is polling. Their argument from the start has been to try to convince voters Desantis is more electable than Trump.. and that’s a pretty lousy campaign message, even without Desantis’ obvious weaknesses. •I’m just like the other guy, only “better”” is not a message that is going to resonate, especially when it’s clear you are not nearly as adept as the actual retail politicking part of the job.

Anyone who is honest with themselves can see Desantis is a very weak retail politician, especially compared to Trump, his presence on the podium is just lousy. It’s clear he’s owned by the establishment money men, and there is just no path forward for him this cycle and there never was. Once Trump named himself officially in the race, the GOP primary was effectively over. The establishment thinking has been as the political prosecutions and other things Mount, he would be forced out.. and someone else would get the nod… They just done understand the realities of the dynamic going on because they are and have been utterly out of touch with the electorate for decades now.

It is hard to see a scenario where Trump is not only the nominee, but where he would lose even a single state during the primaries. Sure the future isn’t set in stone, and some black swan event can always happen.. but the more the establishment attempts to destroy Trump, the stronger his support will become.. and it sure looks like they have every intention to keep trying to destroy him.

The electability argument is just a dead argument, because Trump is the only President to grow his support by the numbers he has since FDR.. and if he can’t win the general there sure as hell isn’t another Republican running who can. Arguing any of the also running including Desantis is a stronger general candidate is just a laughable proposition.

The People Trump has brought to the table are not simply a segment of the GOP base they are people who are not part of that base and people who are not going to show up for a traditional country club/establishment gop candidate. If Trump can’t win the general no Republican running this cycle can.

Spent much time around military folk these days? On the base near me they are chastised if they refer to each other as “he” or “she.” They are to refer to each as “they” now.

Our woke military will be putting us on the transports, not saving us from them.

It isn’t voters that will elect Biden. That didn’t happen in 2020. It is vote counters, vote manipulators and vote creators. That is what needs to be addressed.

“DeSantis spent a long time pretending not to be a RINO, and everyone caught on to his game.”
******************************************************
So Desantis who has consistently promoted and passed conservative, pro-life, pro 2A legislation is a RINO, but DJT who praised Diane Feinstein for her push for assault rifle bans, defends Disney and signed every bloated budget put before him is not?

Yeah that is reasoned thinking.

DeSantis is right. Problem is that Trump wants revenge. The base who follows Trump wants revenge too.

Revenge is a change term for wanting to fix a problem. What's DeSantis' solution? Ignore it?

The RNC is aware that in critical, swing district elections Trump’s endorsement is the kiss of death, so they are going to have him endorse their candidates’ opponents. /s

Go listen to the DeSantis’ interview with Megyn Kelly and you’ll find out what his solution to the deep state is. He lays it out more clearly than Trump has.

The polls are going in the wrong direction for DeSantis (31 in June to 17 today) and his merry band of Beta Republicans.
