Two in three Americans (67%) said they could live on sandwiches alone for a full week, according to new research.
The perfect sandwich, according to a survey of 2,000 Americans, consists of tomato (54%), cheddar cheese (39%) and Black Forest ham (39%). The survey also found that the average American craves a sandwich four times a week.
It seems that the best solution for your tastebuds and your wallet is a sandwich as 42% polled said they are actively looking for ways to cut down the cost of food, with sandwiches being a good money-saving option for 67% of respondents, according to a survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Buddig. For favorite ingredients, barbecue sauce, mayonnaise and honey mustard topped the list, all at 58%. The least favorite was ranch (26%).

I would not eat anything that had the tiniest speck on mayo on it. It’s disgusting.
Yup.
Ha!
Me too!
You don’t trust your wife to make a good sammich for you?! That’s almost unheard of!!
I recommend you don’t tell her this unless you have already told her. If my husband announced this to the world, before letting me know, I would be mortally embarrassed. Mortally.
For the record, I’ve asked him tonight, and he loves my sammiches. And if he’s lying, he’s in the biggest doo-doo of his life. I hate liars, even under duress.
For the record, the best sammich I make is a Cuban. I bake the bread myself, though I let him smoke the pork roast on the smoker. It just easier if we split up some of the tasks.
I’m working on making a nearly perfect Croque Monsieur. Haven’t quite mastered that. When I do, don’t be surprised if I decide to open a sammich shop. It won’t be open during college football season. I will be too busy watching the games.
It’s the correct answer, FRiend! I was going to say as much earlier, but got distracted.
That’s a nice sammich for someone used to those, like my husband. Have you ever had an authentic Cuban sammich? They are to die for, just as much as the sammich you described.
I won’t forget my first month of penniless college. My scholarship funds hadn’t come in by the time I had to register and buy my books. I begrudgingly took a $250 loan from my parents until the scholarship funds were in. As soon as they had, I paid every penny back. I didn’t want their help.
Which meant that I survived on nearly nothing for a month. Like we both said, mustard or mayonnaise sandwiches IF we had bread. Sometimes I would have dried beef slices just to make sure I got my protein.
All I had for cooking was a Hotpot and an electric frypan. By the end of my first quarter, my mom told me that I should write a cookbook for college kids: “Cooking meals for one or two in a Hotpot.”
I made lots of amazing and delicious meals on that electric fry pan though. Lots. Steak Diane, Beef stroganoff, and chicken cacciatore were among my boyfriend (now husband’s) favorites.
The hotpot faded after 20 years, but that electric frypan, which I purchased with Green Stamps, is still going strong. They don’t make small appliances like they used to.
1. Lightly toasted sour dough bread, I cut the crust off before toasting.
2. Two slices of ham or prosciutto
3. Two slices of very sharp cheddar
4. Mayo and Dijon mustard on the bread, go light on the Dijon least it drown out the other flavors.
5. Lettuce and tomato thinly sliced
Some kalamata olives on the side are good with the sandwich.
Wash it down with the wine of your choice. I like a sweet red table wine. After this has all settled down a slice of cheese cake and cognac make it all perfect.
I used to get the Cuban sandwiches from a place on 47th street in midtown Manhattan. Loved them.
NOW you're talkin!
