From the Memphis-Grenada-Jackson-Atlanta Appeal.

Since the fall of Vicksburgh, a shadow of gloom seems to have settled upon the countenances of many, and their hopes of triumph to have suffered at least a temporary eclipse. A calm and impartial survey of the past, and comparison of our then with our present situation, and a glance at our future prospects, we think cannot tail to dispel such despondency.

Twelve months ago Richmond was seriously and closely beleaguered by an overwhelming army. BUELL was strongly in ranched at Bridgport, Stevenson and Huntsville, and the enemy were at that time big with the hope and expectation of speedily crushing out the rebellion. Gen. GRANT, in the meantime, had been defeated in his effort to invade the State of Mississippi from the North, and forced to fall back on Memphis for supplies and the protection of his gunboats. In addition to this, our navy has greatly grown in strength and efficiency, and has stricken the commerce of the Yankees many serious and damaging blows, and even ??? to expel it from the ocean. ROSECRANS may be considered to occupy the same position BUELL did at the same time last year, while the enemy have lost all the ground they had previously gained in Louisiana,
