Joe Biden has reportedly told his troubled son Hunter that he wants to meet his seventh grandchild 'when the time is right' - despite only acknowledging the four-year-old's existence for the first time Friday.
The president had faced mounting criticism for his refusal to accept Navy Roberts, who Hunter conceived with Arkansas stripper Lunden Roberts, into his family. The move fueled speculation he was trying to avoid added scrutiny on Hunter Biden's suspect foreign business dealings as his 2024 reelection campaign ramps up.
Reports indicated that White House aides were instructed to only speak of six grandchildren in public, and Biden himself faced backlash in April after telling a group of children that he had six grandchildren he was 'crazy about.'
But in a statement to People, the president said this week that he and the first lady 'only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy'.
Following the U-turn, insiders revealed to the New York Times that the president told his son he wanted to meet Navy, and the president plans to say he has seven grandchildren going forward.
Biden's reported decision to open his family up to the estranged child comes a month after Hunter settled a hostile child support battle with Roberts, in a deal that was heavily criticized.
Despite allegations he has made tens of millions in foreign deals, Hunter pleaded financial hardship to the court and had his $20,000-a-month child support payments slashed to $5,000.
The agreement also saw Hunter, whose budding painting career has seen some pieces sell for up to $500,000, turn over a number of his paintings to his daughter.
