Kind of like the Red Cross selling coffee and donuts during WW I when everyone else was giving it away. My drill instructors eviscerated the Red Cross to the point that 50 years later I still don’t give them a dime of my money.
I knew you Marines were cheap
The Red Cross charged LE for sandwiches during Hurricane Alicia in Galveston, TX. That was 40 years ago. Many have despised them ever since.
After losing everything in the Alameda fire, I was never able to get any help or even make contact with the red cross. Every time I turned around, I was getting ripped off. People think we have insurance money and everyone wanted some of it. After 2 months I finally found a motel that would let me take my cat..motel 6 dive that charged an extra $20 a night “booking fee”.

WWII also. My Dad hated them.
I remember reading where the Red Cross set up a trailer to sell food and coffee to workers shoring up a dike; the Salvation Army was there as well. Their girls were carry food and coffee through the mud to those working on the dike. The RC has been dead to me since reading that.
