Sinead O'Connor has died at the age of 56 after years of mental health battles, her 'devastated' family confirmed.
The Irish singer shot to stardom across the world in 1990 by her heartrending cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U.
It comes a year after the mother-of-four's son Shane, 17, took his life in January 2022 after escaping hospital while on suicide watch.
At the time of her death, the musician, who changed her name to Shuhada' Sadaqat in 2018 when she converted to Islam, was thought to be spending her time between Co Roscommon, Ireland, and London.
In her last Tweet, O'Connor posted a photo of Shane and said: 'Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul.
'We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally.
'I am lost in the bardo without him.'
The mother-of-four also posted a series of Spotify links to relatively sad and heart breaking songs, including one she dedicated to 'all mothers of Suicided children'.
In a statement, O'Connor's family said: 'It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
'Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.'

Her voice was amazing.
She was a tortured soul.
(Interestingly, she mentioned abuse by her mother. In our current society we blame the fathers, but I often wondered about some of the mothers.)
Too bad. She was a freaking nutcase.
In our current society, mothers are the driving force behind the trans debacle with our under-18 children.
What did she die of?
There’s someone I don’t mind outliving.
I saw no reason given…
When she was posting ads online for men to pound her in the butt, she was on the other end of a lit fuse. Very sad. Obvious emotional problems and an inability to process life as it came her way. As most really great artists, she was deeply troubled.
I think she was legit bipolar or whatever chemical imbalance.
A lifelong troubled sadness. N'uff said.
she was a troubled soul
Lord have Mercy!!
There are many too many who die, and make me worry about their salvation. It’s worse when it’s someone I knew than a public figure like her. Lord have Mercy!!
I am surprised she was only 56. Way back in the early 90s, she was spoofed in a SNL skit in which Phil Hartman played Frank Sinatra as a smart-alecky talk show host. She was portrayed as an ultra-feminist man-hater with a shaved head, and “Sinatra” called her “Uncle Fester” and “Cue Ball.”
A wounded soul the Golden Rule starts with me and All Have Sinned to criticize Sinead O’Connor for her actions and think my *ss is clean would be Pride and Vanity.
It was easy to see she had mental problems.
Losing a child by suicide would completely destroy me.. I think it destroyed her... sad
More than just her voice. She was very troubled, and sometimes her behavior reflected this, but if she is remembered for merely a cover song (no matter how beautifully she covered it), and for her occasionally outrageous behavior, that would be a tragedy.
When they don't even mention it, that's a clue.
