Five ways Ayn Rand predicted America's political crises, from parents spurned to the rise of cancel culture
Fox ^ | July 25, 2023 | Kerry J. Byrne

Many foundational pillars of society in the United States appear to be crumbling right now before our eyes, weakened by an erosive array of social, economic and political forces.

The deterioration of traditional cultural norms and the social upheaval that’s followed — from the living room to classroom the boardroom — is no surprise to Ayn Rand scholars.

The celebrated Russian-born American author and philosopher predicted with haunting accuracy many of the nation’s current crises.

Among her observations: Government would encroach on parental rights, stifle academic and scientific research, and fuel a dangerous mentality of victimhood.

Personally I’m not sure can be turned around using the political system in place right now, the uniparty is to corrupt and unsustainable

We could use a modern day John Galt where the producers begin to withdraw from the public and let the looters aka liberals run it and see what happens

With the current situation only a catastrophic disaster making 9/11 look like a party could change things

A reasonable concern.

The Mainstream Media Disinformational Narrative misinforms the populace as to the causes of the societal disasters.

We could use a modern day John Galt where the producers begin to withdraw from the public and let the looters aka liberals run it and see what happens.

We have some of that, top notch professionals are retiring at the top of their game and are replaced by Affirmative Action test failure hires, over qualified candidates.

That’s why I said we need a modern day John Galt who can lead a peaceful revolution of withdrawal from society and let everything crash and burn

Parts of the country are going thru this and I’m not the least bit worried about it, all the major democratic cities are turning into worse than third world cities

The Fountainhead was my first run-in with cultural Marxism, in Jr H.S. And it immediately triggered my innate conservatism. Saw film then read book. When the bureacrat placed those Greek columns in fron of Roark’s Wright-esque building design, and Roark REFUSED the commission, although he was dead broke, I was sold.

The company that hired the chick to run Bud Light is a prime example along with Disney

let the looters aka liberals run it and see what happens

That's what is happening with the Biden FBI, IRS, DOJ, DHS, DoD; the California legislature; city liberal and socialist mayors and Soros district attorneys; cheered on by an adoring media.

if you remember from Atlas Shrugged, the producers went to Galt’s Gulch and let the country burn to the ground, the protest was peaceful, the government was the one committing violence.

It would nearly be impossible to accept but the producers today should back off, let the looters run things, it’s not a surrender but a strategy to let the system to burn to the ground hoping to rebuild it at some point in the future.

Look at what happened in Germany and Japan after WW II, those 2 countries were decimated into the stone age, but came back in many ways stronger and better.

I would not want a catastrophic defeat like Germany and Japan, but it may have to happen in order to wake people up.

The idea that it can’t happen here is absurd, Germany and Japan were 1st world countries, modern and well educated populations, it happened to them, it can happen to us.

I've read everything Rand produced and found it valuable and honestly objective.

Any of Rand's inconsistencies were in her personal life and affected only her and the few in her personal social group.

She was true to the Civilization and Society.

Ayn Rand heavily influenced me as a teenager.

I think my parents wanted to hunt her down...

One day when they told me to do something I did not want to do I gave the classic Randian response:

“I don’t remember choosing you as my parents.”

She was scorched Earth for sure.

;-)

“I don’t remember choosing you as my parents.”

That's when my dad says, "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out, and make another one that looks just like you!"

Yeah—but then Dad just proved Ayn Rand’s main point—that behind the authority’s protestations of “love” lie the threat of violence.

Rand didn't specifically say "merit based", however her protagonists all produced innovative products or processes by their own individual effort, rather than "do as they're told".

Fortunately, I was old enough to understand Rand when she first gained notoriety.

They were lucky to have lost to the USA, which wrote their new constitutions. We won't be so lucky.

Btw, it's an old joke about the dumb, corrupt foreign minister of a backward South American country who proposed an invasion of the U.S. "What? Are you crazy? They'll destroy us," replied el Presidente. "I know," replied the minister, "And just look how well it worked out for Germany and Japan today!"
