Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who went missing and told a bizarre tale about seeing a toddler on the side of a freeway and being abducted, lied about the whole thing, authorities said Monday.
Russell's attorney, Emery Anthony, emailed a statement to the Hoover Police Department stating Russell admitted to not seeing a baby on the road and was not a missing person, police Chief Nicholas Derzis told reporters.

This police department seems unbelievably weak.
She won't see one day in jail for this.
No one has told us why she was with police in another town the day before where she was praised to the hilt...they just said she was there on businesss.
I think we're going to find she's a cheap con and thief...and has been all her life. And she's still conning folks with her....pray for me...
She’s not the only cheap con and thief in this story. When she first went missing people donated around $63K to Crime Stoppers for the search effort and reward for info leading to her safe return. Well, Careless Carlee is back home and a lot of donors began asking for their money back...but Crime Stoppers says they won’t be returning it.
I’m betting Crime Stoppers will have to....by law...
it will be returned at the donors request...seems to be the rule.

Sounds like it is behavioral therapy time. A type of PTSD perhaps. Young teens who have experienced traumatic personnal events (i.e. date rape), carry that throughout their adult lives and crack at some point when the false front(s) finally gives way.
Hoover cops are actually ok. However, they do have a rep for being racist real or imagined. I guess they are handling this really carefully lest the usual agitators come out of the woodwork.
The fact that the usual agitators did not rush to a mike....tells me they know something about this “lady”. Just being logical.

Agreed. Crime Stoppers will return the money to the donors. I believe I read earlier that their policies prevent them from doing so while the case is still under investigation. Now that it looks like the case is closed (perhaps officially closed soon) they’ll probably soon return the donations.
I thought a female friend or relative was close by at the time of the non-event.

Do we really want to have to pay for her bed, board and medical? How about she pay for all the ruckus and apologize personally instead of just from a lawyer’s statement? No social media for a year or three, just a flip phone.
There are ways to punish without costing the taxpayers a lot of money needed for serious criminals.
