The wife of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has filed for divorce nearly a week after the Manhattan architect was arrested in the case, according to a new court filing.
The filing in Suffolk County Supreme Court is dated Wednesday and indicates the divorce will be "uncontested." The case caption is Asa Ellerup v. Rex Heuermann.
The development comes in the wake of Heuermann's arrest on July 13 in connection with three of the 10 victims linked to the Gilgo Beach, New York, murders.
In a statement shortly after the arrest, defense attorney Michael Brown referred to Heuermann as a "loving husband" and said he and Ellerup had been married more than 25 years.
Ellerup has no comment at this time, her attorney told ABC News on Wednesday.

Smart. She’s trying to limit her liability from future lawsuits.
Imagine that.
Get out while the gettin’s good.................
People these days no longer uphold that whole “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, for serial killing or not serial killing , to love and to cherish, until parted by death of your husband’s hookers.”
“Really? That’s your theory?”
He’s got a net worth north of seven million dollars so yeah.
Yep, not like the good old days....................
Really? Just lawsuits? So if it wasn't for the threat of lawsuits, she would stay married to a now known multiple mass-murderer and rapist?
She should be relieved that LEO and forensics removed truckloads of evidence from the home. A lot less junk requiring disposal.
Every penny of which would be eaten up by legal fees (guilty or not) if she can't find a way to protect it.
Hopefully his lawyers won’t gum up the works with some kind of “we can’t split the assets because our client deserves a defense”.
Of course there’s another reason...it’s so obvious that there’s no need to even mention it.
One would think that in a state like New York the probate courts would offer some degree of protection for her.
“Really? Just lawsuits? So if it wasn’t for the threat of lawsuits, she would stay married to a now known multiple mass-murderer and rapist?”
My friend, some women have been known to seek out and marry convicted mass murderers. Others have been known to stay with their husbands after they get convicted.
It happens.
In this case she stands a chance at getting most of the assets in her name and perhaps shelter those millions of dollars from the inevitable wrongful death lawsuits.
For a little thing like cheating with hookers, dismembering them and then burying her body in a remote beach in camouflaged burlap so there’s no evidence?
But seriously. Smart move lady.
What about until death do us part?
I feel sorry for the kids. How many are there?
