One of my favorite actors, Strother Martin, gave another fine performance in the movie. How about this for a great John Wayne movie and almost theme. It also had an Oscar winning caliber performance by Strother Martin. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, the best western ever made.
I happened to see today that they did a re-make of this movie.
Why does Hollywood keep remaking good, old movies? Don’t they have any new ideas?
I watched that movie again a couple of weeks ago. It had been a while. I’d forgotten how good it was.
I had a little teeny-bopper crush on Glen Campbell. Had a few of his albums. He’s the reason I learned to play the guitar. Not nearly as well as he did, but I wasn’t bad.
Great message to the left: fill your hands you sob.
Cowboy bump.
I remember a Glen interview where he talked about Wayne complaining he wasn’t keeping up on horseback.
Glen said that Wayne purposefully put him on what Glen called a “pony”, and told Wayne he was doing the best he can. While Wayne is much bigger than Glen, Glen’s horse does look small. I think it sets up one of the last lines of the movie where Maddie comments on Rooster’s new horse - before he jumps the fence.
Glen was no stranger to a horse or any animal given his upbringings. They should have given him a bigger horse!
I saw that movie in Radio City Music Hall in NYC when I was a kid.
I wish Glen had just written the song for the movie and left it at that. His acting was really bad and brought down the quality of the movie. It’s no surprise he didn’t act again.
He ruined the entire movie. I took my girlfriend to this movie as she thought Campbell hung the moon.
His “acting” was so bad I could not help but say so. SHE then dropped me like a hot rock.
I like the piano part.
