I was working in Huntsville at the NASA facility on Skylab in 1973 when the The Pascagoula Abduction case was announced. U.S. military intelligence concluded in the 1950’s that whatever the phenomenon was, it posed no threat to the security of the nation. It did however allow intelligence agencies to infiltrate numerous fringe groups, where they remained for budgetary reasons, and easy access to people self-selected for gullibility.

The far likelier explanation is its some upper atmosphere phenomena based on the sun going into an active phase and dumping energy (particles) into the atmosphere. Coupled with increased natural geophysics activity in the earth such as Schumann resonances. The earth-sun-planets-galaxy system are all nonlinearly linked and exchange energy - particles, photons, etc and very poorly understood.

Stupidest thing I have ever heard. What is really happening, is they are prepping us for a big “reveal” and that we will all need to accept massive changes in our freedom, global governance, economics, etc.
IE... the “aliens” will have told DC that all fossil fuel needs to stop. That meat production should stop, etc etc.
Mind you, we won’t see green aliens shaking hand with the President or anything. It will be a model similar to the Vatican. God speaks to the Pope, who tells us what god wants.

They were also a cover story the CIA and Military used to explain the U-2 aircraft and other experimental planes. UFOs were the go to excuse as a 1950s cover story.
