Good question. Supposedly they developed this alloy in-house. Like they did for the casting alloy used on the Model Y.
Deloreans had stamped stainless panels, didn’t they?
Yes but not 3mm thick.
Oh, I see. What’s the max thickness for stamped panels?
2mm in general for both aluminum and HDG and EG steels.
Pre-market 286.79 +5.41 (1.92%)
Thanks. I just read the stainless they’re using is cold rolled, so that would be even harder to stamp.
Plus EV batteries weigh a 1,000 to 3,000 pounds. You would need a specialized crane to swap them out.
Heavier? Not too good for an EV.
Differences Between Carbon Steel & Stainless Steel

I think that engine eventually stretches its timing chain past the computers ability to correct if you have a heavy foot with it. That’s a shitload of excess power with the dual turbo. Without the turbo it’d be about 275hp. 275hp and ten forward gears should be more way than adequate to pull anything. However if you don’t hit it hard enough to get the turbo going often enough, as we’re finding out with my wife’s ecoboost the waste gate malfunctions necessitating expensive repairs. Im not sure race equipment on trucks and cars is a good idea.
No, I generally keep good discipline on the accelerator. Someone had told me about what you say, in different terms - the engine and turbos are the exact same as what is put into the Raptor; only difference is boost pressure. If I’m towing my camper(loaded with all our gear) and set the cruise at 70-75, it can keep speed across I-80 in PA with never dropping a gear - solid performance.
... however, I do OCCASIONALLY like to .. ahem ... “clear out the carbon” (a phrase my step-dad used back in the natutally-aspirated days). MAN, that thing puts you into the seat damn quick.
