Southern California lifeguards said they spotted at least three juvenile great white sharks off the coast of Black’s Beach on Friday and are warning beachgoers to exercise caution in the area.
The San Diego-Fire-Rescue Department posted a photo to the agency’s Facebook page of a sign that was to be temporarily installed on the beach warning of the marine life.
According to the agency, the sharks were feeding on the carcass of a sea lion and were not exhibiting aggressive behavior.
There have been no other reported sightings of the sharks that were thought to the 6, 8 and 9 feet long.
According to the San Diego Tourism Authority, the area is famous for being one of the largest nude beaches in North America and is known for its giant swells.
Swimming is not generally recommended year-round due to rough surf conditions created by cliffs.
Locals said the powerful waves make the beach a destination for experienced surfers, especially during the winter.
The beach is less than five miles away from the site of California’s most recent shark attack, which happened in 2022.
In November, Lyn Jutronich told San Diego’s FOX5 she was finishing her weekly swim at Del Mar Beach when she was rammed by a shark that clamped down on her thigh.

I know what every guy is thinking about with this one.
LOL.
Shrinkage? Pacific is cold…
Ever notice how much publicity Great White Sharks get?
If they were all black do you honestly think anyone would give them the time of day?
And what's so great about them?
Sausage Fest 23!
From the shark’s POV, that’s awful considerate. It’s like eating a hot dog without the wrapper.
Black’s beach is a notorious homo gathering spot.
Hope no sharks catch any of their diseases if they bite.
“white sharks off the coast of Black’s Beach”
Oh my!
So the sharks want to sunbathe naked.
So what.
I also thought of “Jaws”.
Are we talking tumescence here?
No swimming is right. I did one back in 1972 almost drowned..
Not off of Torry pines and ucsd. The homos gather much farther south. Or at least they use to.
I hear you. Almost got shot out to the sea with the outgoing tide flow where the river flows out at Torrey.
Years ago WLS had a 5 minute show called Animal Stories. At the height of the “JAWS” craze, the two dj’s cited a study that showed sharks are most likely to attack a “dangling appendage” like an arm or a leg. One dj (I think it was Johnny Lujack) then said, “Well, if a shark ever bites one of MY “dangling appendages”, I certainly hope it’s an arm or a leg!”
My gf brought me there one time back in my navy days. Didn’t exactly realize what was going on until the old wrinkly surfer dude came out of the water sans speedo.
Back in the early 80s I was in a nude wedding on that beach ...Came within an inch of being best man
