Yeah, I'm gettin' misty and all, but I'm not 16 anymore. And my last car in high school was my 396 Impala with Julie D sitting so close to me (bench seat front) she was almost in my lap. These days I drive a Ford F150. 400 horses at 7,000 rpm.

Except, redline starts at 6,500 rpm. Cute.

If the Challenger is such a winner, why is it going away?

Because it won’t catch my 2016 Cadillac CTS-V 4 door sedan, and I love my 2 crotch rocket Yamaha RZ500’s

Even worse they are built just down the road from me here in the Toronto area. There aren’t many cars with 10 different trim levels but this one has em. Oh well adios and all that.

If you buy the last Challenger, for the love of God please take off the yellow splitter guard...

‘Splitter’, or ‘splatter’?

LOL! Nope. They’re here to stay as is are my Ducati’s. Hell, even stodgy old BWW (Bikes made weird) has gotten in on the race bike action.

A four-door Charger doesn’t do anything for me.

Eric Peters’ blog is great reading. He has good insight on a number of topics. Interesting to see the ambivalence in some of the comments here. Cars like this are going away due to government fiat. They are being replaced with soulless electric transportation appliances. Enjoy the future I guess . . .

Your standard Challenger won't but there are certainly limited editions that would beat that Caddy.

Those are going away all on their own. They sell streetfighter bikes now that are faster and don’t require weird painful gymnastics to sit on them.

If the Challenger is such a winner, why is it going away?

Because at the price point, there just aren't enough buyers every year to keep the production line open and it doesn't have enough of a following at a high price point to go into a niche line like the Corvette.

It's not new; the early Dusters / Demons, Challengers / Barracudas and Charger / Roadrunners were never manufactured in the same number as their GM counterparts:

Buick Apollo (Chevy Nova design)
Buick Century / Regal / Skylark / GS
Chevy Camaro
Chevy Chevelle
Chevy Malibu
Chevy Monte Carlo
Chevy Nova
Oldsmobile Cutlass / 442
Oldsmobile Omega (Chevy Nova design)
Pontiac Firebird
Pontiac Grand Prix
Pontiac Tempest / LeMans / GTO
Pontiac Trans-Am
Pontiac Ventura (Chevy Nova design)

...and let's be honest, the car's current legacy is having someone stealing one and doing donuts in an intersection in a ghetto neighborhood. It's not a legacy of a real muscle car out racing on the roadways.

“If the Challenger is such a winner, why is it going away?”

Probably because the government told Dodge (directly or indirectly) “Stop making them. We have an earth to save.”
