How far will Hollywood "progressives" go to advance their agenda of celebrating all things LGBT?
Evidently, as far as taking a real historical figure and making him homosexual – with zero evidence – as a tool to inject "queer" history into the storyline.
Tony Phelan and Joan Rater are the husband-and-wife creators of the popular historical mini-series "A Small Light," about Miep Gies, a Dutch woman who famously helped hide Anne Frank's family and other Jews from Nazi occupiers carrying out Hitler's "Final Solution" in World War 2-era Amsterdam.
The Hollywood couple takes "artistic license" to a whole new dimension by turning Gies' adoptive older brother, identified as Casmir ("Cas") Nieuwenburg, into a homosexual so they could highlight a Dutch gay man's role in the country's anti-Hitler resistance. Phelan then expanded on the deception in an interview by rationalizing that since Miep Gies had five adoptive siblings, "statistically, one of them had to be gay" – an assertion that is both historically and statistically reckless.
"If you're familiar with Anne Frank's story but never knew about Miep Gies' gay brother, it's because this aspect of the story is entirely fictional," states an analysis of the historical (in)accuracy of "A Small Light" on the "History vs. Hollywood" website.

Disney deserves to be burned to the ground. As Douglas Adams wrote, “They’ll be the first up against the wall when the revolution comes.”
Heck, a lot of the SS and virtually all of Hitler’s top ranks were gay. They were into nasty stuff, not just being cute little gay guys.

That hideous license was based on a horribly erroneous assumption that gays make up 20 percent of the population.

I think you mean Ernst Röhm. Röhm was Hitler’s right-hand man as head of the Sturmabteilung (SA, the Brownshirts).
But I wouldn’t be surprised about the SS.
Nazi homosexual rape (especially of young boys) by SS of prisoners was extremely common — and encouraged.
We wondered about that. Seemed odd. No doubt there were gays then as well and maybe played parts but it felt unseemly in the story line.
Poor Anne Frank. She - her story - has constantly been misappropriated by Leftists, for different reasons in different ways at different times.
There is even a Leftist NGO which uses the Anne Frank name for their NGO, just to exploit her name for their Leftist views.
You can’t be sued for libeling a dead person, so Hollywood does it all the time, in a variety of ways. Anything to try to make a buck.
For fairness, they ought to have Indiana Jones make an appearance.
I never used to notice how the left had insinuated itself into Star Trek. Data makes an offspring, and the offspring gets to “choose its gender.” I clicked on a YouTube excerpt and was treated to a monologue on diversity and how wonderful it was. (Referring to all the aliens on board.) Then there was Dax who went from being a man to a woman. Then there was the time Picard explains the economics of his century to someone of a previous century. “The economics are somewhat different. We strive only to improve ourselves.” And Sisko’s father runs a restaurant, one of the hardest jobs, for free? The waiters put up with the public to “improve themselves?” Then there’s the Feringee who are intended to be a demeaning reference to entrepreneurs.
I can’t remember when I last saw a movie in the theater. Everything we see today seems tainted with leftist propaganda.
I read the transcripts of the Polish war crimes trials in my undergrad days in college; what stood out to me was the assertion that the SS was riddled through with homosexuals; the first thing the SS would do when they came into a town our village was to look for young boys.
The Poles found this so repugnant that they executed any boy or man that was corrupted in this manner.
It was. I think one of the initiation procedures for the SS involved homosexual rape. It was designed to make these men submissive and loyal to their commander.
Disgusting, but it has been used in other societies, such as the Spartans.
Male rape is all about dominance.
Hollywood is just following the left’s desperation to inject gender and race into stories, both true and fictional. Historical figures and fictional characters become gay, female, black, brown or whatever trait is desirable to the agenda. One of the early and very aggressive attempts was to portray Abraham Lincoln as gay, though historians admit there is no indication that he was.
Garbage reasoning since the data show it is both regional and generational - which indicates it has to (mostly) be learned behavior...statistically.
I enjoy historical fiction but I avoid stories where a historical figure is a major character because it requires adding/imagining details far beyond the record.
