World's biggest eaters REVEALED: DailyMail.com's interactive map ranks 184 countries based on average calories consumed per person each day (so, can you guess which nation wolfs down 4,000 kcals daily?)

* Researchers at Oxford University ranked 184 countries by calorie consumption

* US came 2nd overall, while the UK ranked at 26th position in the tally

*********************************************************

America is known for its big portion sizes and even bigger obesity problem — and this map reveals why.

People in the US consume an average of 3,868 calories per day, the second-highest number of any country in the world.

It is eclipsed only by Bahrain, in the Middle East, where people consumed more than 4,000 calories per day on average.

That's according to research by Oxford University-based OurWorldInData, which compiled figures on calorie consumption by country from the United Nations.

The UK ranked 26th overall, with the average person making their way through 3,422

Out of the 184 countries surveyed for the study, 173 consumed more than 2,000 calories per day — or above the recommended daily average for both sexes.

Researchers warn over-consumption is driving up obesity — with 1billion people now obese compared to 175million in the 1970s — and fuelling associated health problems including high blood pressure, heart disease and even Alzheimer's.

Top of the list was Bahrain, a tiny but wealthy island nation off the coast of the Arabian peninsula.

Four in ten adults in the country are obese, data shows, which has been linked to more sedentary lifestyles and increased consumption of fast food.

“It is amazing that these people don’t try Keto for just a few weeks. Some of that blubber would immediately fall away.”

So what is the difference between eating a lot on keto versus eating anything you want but keeping the calories low?

Every thing I eat is either fattening or otherwise bad for me.

Why is everything ‘Fat Free’ but me?.............

Good catch. The data they’re showing is calories purchased not calories actually consumed, which makes sense since the latter would be tough to document.

You need more fat and protein, fewer carbs.
Hit the weights and get plenty of sleep.
You don’t eat when unconscious…

The waste at home and especially in restaurants is enormous.

I know I sound like some liberal tree-hugger but we could feed entire nations with the food we throw away.

During my brief stints working at a restaurant and at a supermarket, it was heartbreaking to see how much good food got thrown out at night. You would think it would make more sense to donate it to homeless shelters or whatnot, but the government is right there with regulations discouraging that practice, or making it very difficult to do without exposing the business to litigation.

Calorically speaking, those numbers aren’t that far apart.

I wonder why Ireland would be so much higher than the UK average?

“That means a lot of food is thrown away.”

Or maybe people haven’t stopped expanding.

with 1billion people now obese compared to 175 million in the 1970s

So, about 1/8th of the world today is obese. What was the world population in the 1970’s? I see between 3.7 billion and 4.3 billion.

Still, a much larger percentage today. Could be the additives we put in the food. The much easier access to food at all hours of the day/night.

Lots of reasons.

< Yes, I’m obese. I’m old, fat, tired, and now get off my lawn >

lol

Good question.

Keto kills your appetite.

As you probably know, carbs are addictive and the more you eat, the more you want (they convert to sugar in the bloodstream). A low-carb diet on the other hand is satisfying (for the most part).

As an aside, eating as a sport or hobby loses its appeal on keto. I find myself eating for nutrition only and that just isn't that much fun.

I replaced my eating for sport & hobby with exercise.

Most people think of keto as just a way to lose weight. I have been thin for years (been on low-carb diet since 1970's), but stay on keto because it keeps my cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar down.

Worthless statistics mired in unknown variables, but there’s always a redeeming quality somewhere.

Israel’s stands out visually, being no. 12 and all alone at the bottom of the chart.

3,570. Well this *is* the year of the gimel [גימל], 83. The great gimel (Lev 13:33) was read on Patriot’s Day this year, Boston Marathon Day.. the 127th, and also the 10th anniversary of the bombing.

Naftali נפלתי (sic), 570, was the cross-country ultramarathon runner of the family.

Where does it all end? You’d think a person could only eat so much!

Yeah, that’s accurate:

- from the UN
- would require 100,000 respondents for *possible* statistical validity
- necessarily based on notoriously unreliable self-reporting
- again, from the UN

North Korea is perfect calorie intake. 2,000 is the recommended daily needs. Americans are glutenous. Sinful behavior which I am also guilty.
