Cancel culture is using social pressure to utterly destroy a person’s professional and private lives, often times jeapordizing their safety through things like doxxing. Children are threatened, as are family members in general, followed by messages like, “i hope u get raped and die”. The entire thing is completely involubtary, and usually commktted by people who have zero stake in the fight - they rnjoy ruining lives.

Boycotting is based on a free exchange of goods for currency, which is voluntary. There is no threat to a person’s safety or private life, just a choice not to buy from that person or company.

Big difference.

I have no problem cancelling organizations or companies that support perversion including homo marriage. If you call it cancel culture, so be it.

Many parts
1. What you do voluntarily is one thing.

2. What you encourage others to do voluntarily is a 2d.

3. What you force others to do is a 3rd.

4. Seeking the government to use force is a 4th.

5. Using lies, misinformation is the same as using force in the situation of cancelling a person or a business.

Now compare
When KMart replaced as spokes person a gun toting lady for Rosie O’donnell, the right, led by FR boycotted KMart and sent it into Bankruptcy.

When the left wanted to cancel fossil fuels they had Biden take many actions in Jan 2021 to force people to pay for the dream of ending fossil fuel. Biden made it possible for Putin to finance invasion of Ukraine. How many thousand of Russians and Ukies and others have paid with their life for Biden’s attempt to cancel of fossil fuels?

Pick many other actions.

When Hispanic non-citznes want to enter the US, do we cancel them?

Don’t start with trying to justify any particular side. I use the criteria of force. Often of course, both sides use force, And it might not be 2/both sides. It might be many sides in a complex society.

Pick your own criteria and then use that criteria honestly,

Cancel culture is Marxist shaming of an individual for speaking a truth that threatens social engineering goals. The result is an unrecoverable end to that individual’s career.

Boycott is free market recourse for consumers when corporations participate in unethical practices or political activism that has nothing to do with their products or services. The result is a temporary financial loss while the company rebrands under a new alias.

Here is the difference:
In cancel culture the communist left seeks to destroy and cancel because it is good and wholesome.
Boycotting evil is surgically removing an evil from our collective body.
Or a dentist pulls out a rotting tooth that is a threat to the health of the entire body and this is good.
Or a bad dentist removes a good tooth because he is a bad person.

Boycott - You, as a business, do what you want and if I disagree, I will work with like minded people to stop spending money for your products.

Cancel culture - You do whatever I say and support whatever I tell you to, or I will ruin your business, income, family, life.

IMO, cancel culture would ban Bud and try to get Dylan M. fired and kicked out of his home etc. Cancel culture is trying to destroy someone’s livelihood and ability to function in society.

Boycott - I want to ignore what you say

Cancel culture - I want to stop what you say

Trying to get someone fired or de-banked for expressing an unpopular opinion is quite a bit different than deciding not to buy a product.

It's nothing like cancel culture, because it is the people refusing to buy the beer. No one is coercing Bud Light to change their position whatsoever, nor are they calling for anyone to be fired. That is why they are not the same.

Bud light made their choice & the customers reacted with their choice. No pressure was applied to either side of the equation. But the consequences are real. I'm not even sure that Bud Light changing their position would make any difference now. Customers have moved on. The damage done was self-inflicted, and the customers found out there were alternatives. They may have even found out that the alternatives were better anyway. A win-win for the consumers, a loss-loss for the company. Sadly, the employees that had no decision in what was done were also adversely affected, but hopefully the increased sales in other companies opened up new positions for the displaced Bud Light workers.

It is most certainly not the same. Cancel culture targets individuals. Boycotts target companies which propagandize indecency.

Cancel culture is literally trying to “cancel” (i.e. eliminate) a person, product, business, viewpoint, group, organization, etc. The goal is to completely ruin the target so that it no longer exists for anyone, anywhere.

Boycotts just mean a consumer is choosing to spend their time and/or dollars elsewhere - it’s a personal decision to support, or not support, the target entity, regardless of whether or not it continues to exist and be enjoyed by other people.

Example: MAGA has largely boycotted FOX because of their various bad decisions since 2020. We now get our news from more trustworthy outlets, and FOX is a non issue to us (aside from a lot of schadenfreude).
The left, on the other hand, has openly called for years for FOX to be removed from the air altogether, because they have dared to allow non-leftist points of view to be publicly presented, and allowed leftist positions to be picked apart and proven wrong on air.

Not the same - at all!
