Even the Search Engines Don't Know Why...
Me | 7/9/2023 | Paul R.

Sometimes, certain things can become very annoying. And here is one, that likely only male members of FR might think of and surely (or at least very, VERY hopefully!) only our guys have experienced:

Sweatpants / running pants / jogging pants can be handy and quite comfy, sweatpants in cool weather especially so. BUT, the darn things almost never have some sort of fly, as in a zippered or buttoned or "snapped" (securely!) fly. This can be a bit of a, well, "pain", or at least an inconvenience, especially if the waist is a bit tight, and, well, I won't get into specifics about the "ambience" of one's surrounding environment / situation. Maybe there's poison ivy underfoot everywhere off the trail. (Yes, ladies, you don't have much alternative, but, point is, men do.)

SO... It occurred to me to do a search for "Why don't men's jogging pants have a zippered fly?" A couple major search engines and a couple minor search platforms turned up nothing useful. One can substitute sweatpants or jogging pants and turn up only the same lack of info.

So, the first mystery is "why not", the second is the lack of an answer to the first!

IF the wearer has nothing on under the sweatpants, I suppose, er, "abrasion" of a sensitive body part in the vicinity could be an issue. But, even then, these issues are easily and cheaply addressed. Men's sleepwear has a fly and buttons. Etc.

???

Sweatpants are absorbent. People will think you’ve just been sweating.

I’m sure the J. Peterman catalog has something. Look between “Urban Sombrero” and the “Gatsby Swing Top.”

I just thought it unnecessary, since they generally have elastic cinch belts, and all you have to do is lower them in front.

Zipper no longer required.

As men get older, they forget to zip their pants. Be appreciative. Zipperless sweatpants are a godsend.

Maybe the problem is your hose is too short?

What’s the difference between a man on a bicycle wearing a tuxedo and a man on a unicycle wearing sweatpants and a hoodie?

Attire.

Never used a fly. The exception is if it’s the only way to get the pants open. Sweatpants have an elastic band so you don’t need to fly. You just pull the front down.

If the sweat pant elastic is too tight to lower the front to “do your business” then you bought them a size too small.

I’m surprised no one has posted this reason yet:

It is much cheaper NOT to. Saves on both labor costs and materials costs.

Even Fetterman should be able to figure that out.

Ummm, you just pull the sweats and undies, or sweats forward and let it hang out and go. Who uses or needs a fly?

Even wearing shorts with or W/O undies, you don’t pull the band over it, you..well I just grasp the leg of the shorts, pull it aside and go easily...my favorite BTW. At one month short of 70, I wear zippered pants maybe once a month at this point. Excuse my rudeness ladies, but not trying, just being real.
