EXCLUSIVE: America's food delivery app RIP-OFF: How DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub sneak junk fees of almost 25% onto your check - and that's BEFORE you have to tip!

Popular food delivery apps are charging customers sneak fees of up to 24 percent of the cost of their order - almost doubling the price in some cases when tips are added. DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats routinely add extra fees and taxes to food orders, but customers are left in the dark about what exactly the add-ons are for.

Inflated delivery app fees are another example of the US 'junk fee' economy - which makes it difficult for consumers to know exactly how much they will end up paying for a service. In February, the government pledged to crack down on hidden fees, which the White House estimates cost Americans around $65 billion every year.

To illustrate how much customers are being forced to fork out in fees for food delivery, DailyMail.com made the same order, costing $49.70, from a Joe & The Juice store in New York City on apps DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats. Then we compared the costs associated with each - before and after a 20 percent driver tip.

Delivery app Seamless, which operates in over 600 cities in the US, is now owned by Grubhub, while DoorDash bought up competitor Caviar in 2020. Fewer choices mean customers may have little choice but to pay out extra add-ons on their deliveries.

And the fees could rise even higher for customers in New York City, according to Grubhub, DoorDash and Uber Eats, if they are forced to implement a proposed minimum wage of $17.96-an-hour for delivery drivers due to be brought in later this month. The trio of tech giants are suing the city over the proposition, which they claim would force them to raise consumer fees to offset costs.

Did they starve to death before Door Dash came along?

You see the dumbest comments on conservative boards from liberals who assume the worst about conservatives and want to polish their own halo.

The question about agoraphobia was not a joke and it is not about people being lazy, that was your cruel and ignorant take on it.

Because of the government locking people up in their own houses for years and telling them it was dangerous to go outside a number of people have developed agoraphobia.

True. I delivered for a bit and had many orders to housebound people.

I only had a few jerks when I did it. Not Doordash though.

Delivered lots of booze when Covid started.

It’s easy enough for me to phone in an order and get it myself.

It’s also easy to cook too.

OFC they do. Their strategy is one of the oldest in the book. New market entrant offers low fees to build customer base, then jacks up prices. AirBNB is the same way.

Only thing new with these players is the mobile app component (oooooohhhhhh aahhhhhh a "tech" company).
