“He said one sentence with an obscenity in there - 'you hit my blank car,' and I said, 'no, you hit my car.' And that’s when he swung with his entire force,” Avery recounted.
Just moments before that, it was a normal afternoon. He was driving on Mopac at Steck.
“And all of a sudden there is a car coming into my lane," Avery said. "I slam on the horn and hit the brakes but it’s unfortunately too late at that point.”
Even then, Avery said he didn’t think it was a big deal. “It’s a minor collision at that point.” But the driver kept driving until Avery says he got his attention and they pulled into the shopping center at Capitol of Texas Highway and 183. Avery didn’t suspect anything at this point.
“We pull into the shopping center as casually as anything possible," Avery said. "We’re using blinkers, we’re going slowly.”

Avery began to take pictures of the damage when the other driver is seen approaching him on video – with his fists.
“That little bit that he did wind up I guess was enough for my brain to realize 'you’re in danger, move your neck,'” he said
Both men move out of frame after the punch, and Avery is heard calling for help. That’s when he says the other driver walked away – exactly what AAA suggests you do.
“If you are confronted, stay as calm and courteous as possible. And if you feel threatened, call 911,” said Zuber.
When police arrived, they took the report and a copy of the video. There is now a warrant out for the other man’s arrest.
As for Avery, he plans to press charges and he says the dash cam video will help him prove it.

Everyone who drives should have a dash cam, and also a rear view cam.
“’you hit my blank car,’” - Today is the 50th Anniversary of the first episode of the TV game show, “Match Game.”
The rage hit & run driver was in a Prius, and he was a dude with a pony tail.
I’m going to say that the meteorologist contributed to the accident by not being courteous and letting the other motorist in. It bugs me that upcoming drivers don’t slow down to let people in, while the people trying to merge at risk of having to drive on the meridian while trying to find a space to get into traffic.
I don’t go anywhere without mine.
Heh, little did we know! He’s lucky the punk didn’t know how to hit.
If you decide to stop or respond at all to such a driver, look for the nearest police station, if you’re familiar with the area.
Did that punch connect at all? I can’t tell.
So tolerant, understanding, laid back, and chill. 🙄
What’s a good one?
I just watched frame by frame on youtube. Was barely a glancing blow, if much contact at all.
He shouild have dialed 911 as soon as they arrived at the parking lot.
It could have been much worse of the pony tail guy had a gun on him.
Bit of a wuss.
Did the video include what was in the rear view mirror?
Ironically, I can’t count the number of times I signal for an exit and start to leave the highway and some clown leaps ahead of me, no signal, and dives into the exit ahead of me and I have to slow down to let them in. Was there anyone behind me? NO! Could _they_ have slowed down themselves and easily got into line for the exit behind me? YES!
I agree. The meteorologist could have avoided the whole accident. This was caused because the car in front of him wanted to merge right, while the Prius was realizing that and needed to merge further left to let the car merge to the right. The meteorologist could have been a little more diligent and careful in his driving at such a merge.
Plus, aren’t rear end hits almost always considered the rear car’s fault.
The video didn’t include vehicles that were behind, but based on the video I saw, the meteorologist would have had the easier time slowing down enough to let the other guy in than the other to slow down to get behind the meteorologist.
Yup.
You can get cams with a forward and rear cam, and also a version that can do 360 degree filming with 4 cams in one module.
Sounds like they can settle it traffic court!
Avery may be at fault for the accident and Ponytail for assault.
I have an older Thinkware front and rear camera system - 6 years old, but it does the job. I see a newer Thinkware model - the U1000 which sells for around $400. There are cheaper brands and models which will probably do the job as well, but Thinkware is what I use.
Thans.😉👌
