A transgender man is speaking out about his recent, recorded visit to a local Walgreens - during which he was denied a prescribed hormone treatment by one of the chain's pharmacists because it 'went against his religion.'
Laid bare in a since-deleted post to Reddit Tuesday that included video of the encounter, the incident involves 30-year-old Roscoe Rike of Oakland, as well as an unnamed pharmacist at the aforementioned store on Telegraph Avenue.
Currently transitioning from female to male, Rike says he has been a customer at the Walgreens for years - picking up his HRT medication, short for 'hormone replacement therapy,' to move along the process.
However, that all changed this past Monday when he was denied that medication by the lone pharmacist on staff, on the basis that giving him the hormone pills would come in direct violation of his religious beliefs.
A longheld store policy allows team members to take such action - forgoing responsibilities that may contradict their 'religious and moral beliefs' by pawning them over to another, more-inclined worker on duty.
This did not stop Rike, however, from launching on an expletive-laden rant toward the worker Monday, who aside from a manager and pharmacy technician, apparently was alone and thus did not transfer the customer to another staffer.
This angered Rike to no end, who quickly whipped out his phone to record the ensuing encounter.
'So right now you're telling me that you're going to deny me my medication because of your personal religion,' Rike is heard telling the man in the footage, which has since been pulled but not before going viral.

Pharmacists are doctors.
They are not physicians. They can’t initiate a script.
He honored religion, not God, much like the Pharisees. What the person does with the prescription is their business. They rise and fall to their own master. Following Christ’s teachings, better to witness the love of Christ every time the person is in front of them, rather than condemning them. Better yet, they could have cast out some demons and ministered healing.
Matt 7:10
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
The last thing I’ll tolerate is some silly-ass pretend physician, who has no idea of the state of my health, trying to make health decisions for me.
I don’t agree with this woman’s health choices, but her anger is entirely justified.
Sorry!
Your retort doesn’t apply here!🥱
I said “Christian’s” .. I didn’t say me or my beliefs.
Try again!🤨
This pharmacist will never take the Mark to do his job.
Others here on this forum will do their job.
The wheat and chaff will be seperated.
The Shepherd will know his flock.
Walgreen Man shold have witnessed to him..
“Do not cast your pearls before swine”
Jesus 101 stuff.
but it’s the business office changing policy, not the pharamcists.
“Did you ask the same question when the cake bakery was involved in the same way?”
The baker owns the business.
The pharmacist works for a corporation.
Big difference.
One CVS wouldn’t fill my script for Ivermectin but a CVS about 6 miles away did twice.
Guess it depended on how woke the pharmacist on duty was.
He should have cast out the demons. That would really have set him off. Head might have even ‘swiveled’ 360 degrees.
And the business owners allow what the pharmacist did!
Now what?🥴
“ Don’t take a job that conflicts with your religious beliefs.”
The job doesn’t.
Check your premise.

“ You have the best, most correct, tagline on FR.”
I know. God help me, I know.

They can write prescriptions.
Maybe as doctors they took the Hippocratic Oath to “first do no harm.”
No they don’t get to exercise anything except do the job they get paid to do which is fill prescriptions. That guy could lose his license if a formal complaint is made. The pharmacy could get sued.
Pharmacists are not doctors.
