Team JAJO had some special –– and terrifying –– visitors while sailing in the Strait of Gibraltar as part of the 2023 Ocean Race on Thursday.
A group of orcas, otherwise known as killer whales, surrounded the Dutch crew’s yacht, first circling the boat and then ramming into it.
“This was a scary moment,” Jelmer van Beek, Team JAJO skipper, said, according to the Associated Press. “Three orcas came straight at us and started hitting the rudders. Impressive to see the orcas, beautiful animals, but also a dangerous moment for us as a team.” Some of Team JAJO’s crew banged on the ship’s hull to try to scare the orcas away while the whales started biting the boat’s rudders.

How can this be a race incident? Orcas are white AND black.
Like Barry O’Bama Soetoro and Bubba Wallace.
You gotta be careful with these guys - call them “fish” and they go nuts.
They are not called ‘Killer Whales’ for nothing...................
Originally called what they are...
Whale killers
Those orcas hate blacks and transgenders, too!
Probably Russian orcas working with Trump.
Where in the rules does it say you can’t have orcas attack someones boat?
Scary Race incident? Did the Orcas hate whitey?
I think the poor critter thought it had found a great way to scratch an itchy spot.
Mean ol’ yachties.
Shamu 'n them!
Looks like the whale was using the rudder as a scratching post.

Why Would Orcas Band Together To Sink Boats? A Marine Biologist Explains This Unusual Behavior
This orca was prompted to engage in the behavior due to past trauma – perhaps being struck by a boat rudder, according to the account. The precise reason is very hard to know for sure ...
Orcas which tried a stunt like this would be shot.
I think orcas are pretty smart and have been known to hold a grudge.
A few years ago an orca at Sea World snatched one of her trainers and took him to the bottom of the pool for an extended dive session. pretty effective way to kill a person.
Exactly, protect them by putting a 1/4 mile zone around them to protect them seems to be making them more aggressive to humans.
There was nothing scary that I saw either, Overhyped claims.
What are they so afraid of? They’re on a big boat, not swimming around in the water.
Yep, I saw no ramming, just a couple orcas scratching their foreheads on the rudder.....
It was a girl, not a guy.
