I do. Reagan had strong support from the get go in 1976.
Almost won the nomination.

Hype can only take you so far. Yes, he did a reasonably good job as governor of Florida. But he had a lot of help - not only from a friendly legislature and friendly state courts, but from his team of consultants who undoubtedly helped him craft his agenda, motivated not so much by ideology but by political considerations, resume building, and image making.

As I said, we don’t all want to watch small screens esp a political function.

I am housewife with not much to do but I still don’t want to. Doing that all the time would bore me.

I would kinda like to have gone to that rally.

At seventy-two being in room full of folk older than me would make me feel young again.

Keep lickin the Gucci loafers of your favorite liberal NYC billionaire!

I see, I'm a liberal and Trump is my favorite liberal. Got it. Very clever. You don't miss anything detective.

Btw, are you talking about the most investigated man in the world who comes out squeaky clean after 8 years of relentless targeted attacks on their main opponent? So clean they had to lie and fabricate crimes? That guy?

There are no guarantees. We don’t even know if a Republican will ever again have a fair chance at becoming president.

I cannot stand the way DeSantis speaks.   He says "I'm" and it sounds like "um".   I don't know if he drops diphthong sounds or it's something else but it sounds like a lazy doofus speaking.

I don't remember that when I lived for a year in Tampa.   It might be a Pennsylvania/Ohio thing.

No, it’s a town-hall meeting. I’ve yet to find it described as a rally except for here in this thread. He made a speech, said some things I hope Trump will also address about the Chinese, other than tariffs, and then answered questions from the audience. Rallies tend to be rah-rah events with several speakers plus the main draw and no questions. I hope Trump does more town-hall meetings, as well as the other campaigners so we have a better understanding of where they all stand on issues. Plus, one of the others might be in the running for V.P.

Funny, I don’t recall anyone questioning how Trump did the job he was paid for when out on the road campaigning for his second term.

You want Trump to do a townhall Q&A so your can get a better understanding of what's happening with him on the issues? I'm sure it's all confusing for ya. I'm confident Trump will tell ya he's very much against the corrupt who've hijacked this government, who've done everything to him short of assassinating him. He'll tell ya about how they've weaponized government agencies to be their private hired guns and muscle. He'll tell ya we're not far from losing this country to these Communist, criminals and tyrants who've seized power. You know, little issues like these.

Btw, Townhalls are easily manipulated and rigged with the audience packed with leftist and assorted Trump haters. We've seen that over and over. Better to hear from the candidate himself for several hours straight. Besides, Trump has done all these rigged rehearsed townhalls and he still came out on top. Btw, it's nice to see a leader and 35,000 of his patriotic supporters face to face. And Trump does this over and over, sometime 3 a day, traveling great distances. The real deal. Real historic stuff.

I wonder why the career professional class lawyer politicians don't have big rallies with their supporters?

Hey, looking at the Town Hall meeting, it’s impressive that he was able to stand on his feet and talk for 1.5 hours.

He sounded like a seasoned politician.

But it’s a far cry from the kind of connection with his audience that Trump achieves. Chris Christie is another ex-lawyer and he’s a smooth talker as well.

It takes a lot of speaking experience to step above specific discussion of policies and make a campaign stump INTERESTING and ENGAGING to the audience.

Trump owns that audience among conservative and independent voters. He exerted tremendous effort to capture that audience, and so he built this tremendous brand around MAGA and what’s best for the US of A and nobody can really challenge him in that same turf.

And nobody complained when DeSantis campaigned for a second term during the final year of his first term as governor. It’s what candidates who run for reelection do. And there’s plenty of incentive for an incumbent to not neglect his duties while campaigning for another term, as it would undermine the goals of the campaign.

What’s different with DeSantis running for President is that he just finished campaigning for 4 more years as governor when his intention was to only serve 2 of them. It will be easy for him to lose focus on what’s happening in his own state now that he’s focused on the presidency. His presidential campaign reveals the mindset of a man who’s lost interest in governing Florida.

Wow. I never saw that debate. I wasn’t paying enough attention to Florida back then. Crist sure did make DeSwamptis look like a sneaky, conniving, two-faced politician. What a snake.

“Funny, I don’t recall anyone questioning how Trump did the job he was paid for when out on the road campaigning for his second term.”

Don’t we expect anyone in office to campaign for the subsequent term if they choose to run again? Isn’t that just part of the territory? OTOH, being half way through your second term as gov and deciding you’re going after the next big rung on the political ladder is different. What’s especially self-serving about this is having the law changed so you don’t have to surrender your gov gig if you don’t succeed with your prez gig!
