Don’t we expect anyone in office to campaign for the subsequent term if they choose to run again? Isn’t that just part of the territory? OTOH, being half way through your second term as gov and deciding you’re going after the next big rung on the political ladder is different. What’s especially self-serving about this is having the law changed so you don’t have to surrender your gov gig if you don’t succeed with your prez gig!

He didn’t change the law. He was already able to run since it was for a Federal office. It’s been that way since before he was governor. The legislature simply clarified that and that a currently employed state official cannot run for another state office in or out of Florida.

Anyone running for the presidency has some degree of self-service involved, with the possible exception of George Washington.
