Ukrainian special ops forces who stormed a Russian trench in an intense video did 'everything right' and took their enemy by surprise, US infantry veteran says

Harrowing footage published by Ukraine's special operations forces this week shows their troops storming a Russian trench and engaging in deadly close-quarters fighting with Moscow's soldiers.

The assault appears to have caught the Russians by surprise and left several dead as the Ukrainians cleared their way through the dirt maze. In stark contrast to the reactions by the Russian soldiers, Kyiv's forces appear to have executed the mission flawlessly, doing "everything right," a former US Army infantry soldier said.

"What the Ukrainians did is very unique in their level of proficiency," John Spencer, chair of urban warfare studies at West Point's Modern War Institute, told Insider after watching the video. "They do everything right, which doesn't always happen in war — even if you're really trained."

Ukraine's special operations forces shared the graphic video to several social media channels on Monday. The military said its forces approached the enemy positions from the rear and killed 10 Russian troops.

The following video is a graphic depiction of front-line trench warfare in Ukraine.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Spencer wrote: "I know a lot of people have already commented on this video of Ukrainian Special Forces conducting close quarters battle in a Russian trench. I can tell they are highly trained, good weapons handling, use of grenades. Intense. High adrenaline but not chaotic. Bravo Zulu."

War is such exciting entertainment, isn’t it?

Putin thinks so. He's entertained by all the killings of men, women and children. He jumps up and down, and yells loudly, "hell yeah!" every time a school or hospital or apartment complex gets blown up by his military.

Those who rebel, get killed to, by the Russians themselves. There is no alternative but to fight and get killed. If you don't want to fight, you get killed too.

Not if it reaches critical mass. It did in 1917. Back then, they didn't have social media. No smartphones.

What will happen to Putin if the Russian Army decides to rebel?

What ridiculous fiction. 200,000 dead Russians?

It's likely a lot more than 200,000 Russians killed in the war, and perhaps some 300,000 injured and put out of service.

The Russians are not about to leave behind their dead and injured, because the pictures would have a very devastating effect for their potential recruits and would be even more devastating if Russians saw so many casualties on TV and on the internet. Besides, the Russians still have a lot more bodies to throw into battle when they empty out their prison system and send them all to war. Russia's leaders don't care about those in their prison system, and they could save a lot of money if they didn't have to house and feed their prisoners. Prigo likes those kind of 'fighters'.

Putin has a lot of people who control the chemical and biological weapons, and they are loyal to their fearless leader.

Not if it reaches critical mass. It did in 1917.

It's not 1017 anymore, and Putin keeps track of all the communications in his country and even outside. Rebellion during the age of the internet is fruitless. The U.S. is doing the same kind of tracking of its citizens, and China is doing the same worldwide. "1984" was a child's version of what's happening in the world right now. Amateurish 1984 is child's play.

speaking of prigo

“Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is lying to President Vladimir Putin about “colossal” battlefield failures in Ukraine, Wagner Group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin said on Thursday, ramping up his criticism of the country’s military leadership.

Prigozhin made the remarks in an audio message posted via the press service of his company Concord. He was responding to a question from a Russian news outlet about why his claims about Ukrainian advances in the Zaporizhzhia region, as part of a counteroffensive, haven’t been reflected by the Russian Defense Ministry or the Kremlin.

The Wagner Group chief’s public feud with Russian officials within the Kremlin is nearing a pivotal moment, with his rhetoric evolving into defiance toward broader sections of the Russian establishment, according to the British Ministry of Defence (MoD)....”

You have been watching way too much NATO/Ukranian propaganda. Barely 500,000 total Russian troops have even been DEPLOYED, let alone casualties! Is it a 100 percent casualty rate you’re stating?

Then there would be nearly zero Russians on the battlefield. Who has been checkmating and holding back the Ukranian counteroffensive then? Ghosts?

interesting to see the kit being used.

At 10 sec in you see a carbine with suppressor, LPVO with tertiary red dot, and what appears to be a laser sight (IR?) on the front end with what I will label shooter #2.

At 14 sec in (from POV of shooter #1) you see a carbine with suppressor, some type of red dot, and a magnifier. Again what looks like a laser (IR?) on the rail in front of the red dot. At 28 sec in you also see a white light on the right side of the hand guard.

Side note - at 37 sec in shooter #2 briefly muzzles shooter #1 with finger on trigger seen at 40 sec mark, but hey, lots of adrenaline right there having shot at 33 sec and shooting again at 43 sec.

Does anyone know if thats a battery pack for NVGs on the back of the helmet at 8 secs in? Could be just counter weights too, but since its daylight, you dont see any NVGs mounted.

Just FYI, I enjoy tearing apart these videos for the kit and tactics detail. In the future maybe I will give my review of the kit and tactics in the movie Lone Survivor. On me. :)

Barely 500,000 total Russian troops have even been DEPLOYED, let alone casualties!

How do you know how many troops Russia has deployed? Are you an insider?

Russia has lost hundreds of thousands, dead and injured. Which is why he has had to resort to using prisoners and older/retired people to go into battle. Many of those prisoners and older people, have not been properly trained, which makes them more vulnerable to being killed or injured and even to surrender.

So, when you show proof that you are an insider with Putin's military, I'll start to believe you.

Putin is too scared to visit, isn’t he? He knows the CEP of NATO missiles isn’t measured in 10s of meters.
