Mexican beer Modelo Especial recently dethroned Bud Light as the top-selling beer brand in the U.S., with the growing Hispanic drinking age population and an increased trend toward premiumization as main causes, according to a top analyst.
"Everybody kind of figured Bud Light was getting hit by that boycott so that fell out of number one. If I told you that the new top-selling brand is Mexican, you might be surprised. If I told you it's Mexican and not Corona … who would've thought Modelo Especial?" Barron's associate editor Jack Hough said during an appearance on Fox Business's "Barron's Roundtable."
Following the Dylan Mulvaney controversy, wherein the beer brand took on significant backlash after featuring the transgender activist, Bud Light's sales have continued to take a dip, so much so that the brand has recently fallen from the spotlight as the #1 Selling Beer Brand on a dollar basis in the U.S.

These marxist liberals live in a different world.
If Modelo went the bud light route, I think there sales would plummet also.
Modelos ads are more macho.
I see.
...and if we actually deported illegal aliens, Modelo’s market would also dry up.
I never heard of that beer before.
Modelo Negro is my favorite store bough beer. Absolutely no comparison with thatBud waste water.
I would guess the drinkers of bud and modelo are very different.
Better not drink the Mexican pee man, it ain,t good for you....in more ways then one.
Friendly correction, it’s Modelo Negra, and it’s excellent…
BEST beer I’ve had in a long time is Brazilian Brahma beer. Some people think it is from India because of the name but it is definitely from Brazil. I plan to get a case of it for my July 4 BBQ party (I might also cook pincanha steak). You would probably have to go to a Brazilian market to buy it because I haven’t seen it in supermarkets.
“...and if we actually deported illegal aliens, Modelo’s market would also dry up.”
Unlikely. I’m a beer snob (my son is a professional brewer at a major craft brewery). If I have to drink mass produced beer, then Modelo Negro is my 1st choice.
Many Germans immigrated to North Mexico/Texas in the 1800s’ and they brought their beer with them. Modelo Negro is good stuff for mass produced beer.
FYI: In Bev owns Modelo, but because of anti-trust issues, it allegedly does not generate revenues from sales of Modelo in the U.S.
Models Especial is a much better beer than most of the alternatives. But my US favorite is Negra Modelo. I like that sort of beer, not being an IPA zealot. Not that I can drink beer anymore.
It’s not that their sales went up.
Buds went way down.
“...and if we actually deported illegal aliens, Modelo’s market would also dry up.”
Not likely. Modelo is a very German-style beer. And its broken out of the burrito restaurant ghetto. Most of its market these days is white people. As is most of the market for Mexican food.
It would be like assuming people will stop eating pizza and spaghetti if the Italians went home.
Modelo sales did go up. 14% up from last year.
Ah, but if you’ve been to Italy you well know that good “Italian” cooking is 100% American, especially pizza! :)
Italian pizza is a very different animal than the US sort. Adjust expectations. To add, the ingredients tend to be very superior to the American.
