My parents used to travel in Europe. Their biggest complaint was that no matter how much they asked they would never be served coffee until they were done eating. New Zealand too.

In Italy if you ask for Parmesan Cheese on any Seafood dish “youraa gonaa getta slapa acrossa da face.” Correct! And don't ask for butter for your bread. Or ground black pepper on any dish. I once had a waiter in Florence tell me, "You Americans want pepper on everything...including gelato. If our chef thought that this dish needed pepper, he would add it in the kitchen!"
