The hull of the Titan vessel "showed signs of cyclic fatigue," according to a January 2020 interview with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who is aboard the missing vessel. Rush told Geekwire that due to that stress, the hull rating was downgraded to a depth of 3,000 meters, 800 meters short of the Titanic's depth.
In a December 2019 slideshow that appears to have been presented to the Deep Submergence Science Committee of the University — National Oceanographic Laboratory System, OceanGate listed the depth capability of the Titan as 3,000 meters.
But in 2021, OceanGate announced that Titan, not another vessel, had completed a trip to the Titanic.
There had been no public update about Titan's depth rating since it was downgraded.
On the company's current webpage, however, the site uses the exact same language, but with a different 4,000 meter depth, which puts it beyond the depth of the Titanic: "Titan is a Cyclops-class manned submersible designed to take five people to depths of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) for site survey and inspection, research and data collection, film and media production, and deep sea testing of hardware and software."

you go girl !
Ok so they locate them right this minute.
How are they going to get them to the surface?
Implosion would have been merciful.
SO if it doesn’t have windows and only video screens....what’s the point??? WTH?
4 of 5 people find out the 200K they spent on a submarine ride wasn’t the round trip price.
The ceo was being delusional using a sub designed not by experts as he has stated he did not want to hire 50 year white guys but 25 year old very intelligent people.

They came up with a sub that uses a modified Logitech game controller to control the sub.... The 1/3rd scale test sub developed a crack and the person who reported it left the company over concerns. He was not the only one with concerns.
The people below are very lucky they did not go as all the others who signed up.

Correction. The employee was fired after reporting safety issues.
A whistleblower raised safety concerns about OceanGate’s submersible in 2018. Then he was fired.

“Hey guys, what is that snap, crackle and ....” POP!!!
The remnants spiral down to the ocean bottom.
Reading the Yahoo article you know this sub was built on wishful thinking and not sound engineering. The viewing port alone doomed them. The ceo knew the sub had hull failures and was no longer capable of safely getting to the Titanic.
Supposedly rebuilt or repaired. You can bet as cheap as can be.

Lochridge’s recommendation was that non-destructive testing of the Titan’s hull was necessary to ensure a “solid and safe product.” The filing states that Lochridge was told that such testing was impossible, and that OceanGate would instead rely on its much touted acoustic monitoring system.
The company claims this technology, developed in-house, uses acoustic sensors to listen for the tell-tale sounds of carbon fibers in the hull deteriorating to provide “early warning detection for the pilot with enough time to arrest the descent and safely return to surface.”
-snip-
A day after filing his report, Lochridge was summoned to a meeting with Rush and company’s human resources, engineering and operations directors. There, the filing states, he was also informed that the manufacturer of the Titan’s forward viewport would only certify it to a depth of 1,300 meters due to OceanGate’s experimental design. The filing states that OceanGate refused to pay for the manufacturer to build a viewport that would meet the Titan’s intended depth of 4,000 meters. The Titanic lies about 3,800 meters below the surface.
The filing also claims that hazardous flammable materials were being used within the submersible.
This is going to get ugly.

I think it already is ugly. With the vehicle not certified for those depths, the make shift parts and patches, the game controller, and no second vehicle to cut them out of any problems.
Right now, if the vehicle did not implode, they have less than 22 hours of O2.
We will be hearing about this for a long time.
If you haven’t watched it yet look at this top-notch briefing by this expert on this device and the issues and questions regarding it.
This guy is excellent and there are no wasted words and pauses, and uhs.

An airplane style pinger that could handle pressure at depths cost a lot of money. This was a cheapskate operation. The tin can was driven by an X-Box controller and the grab bars were purchased at Camper’s World. This thing looks like something a high school kid built in his dad’s garage.
