The Ford and GM problem is that the trucks aren’t selling. Dealer pickup inventories are swelled to some say 50+ days of sales. The new models are soon to emerge only to face the extreme unsold back logs.

The EV’s have nothing to do with the existing truck problem. People are just not buying a truck that starts at $50 grand and up and up and up.

Ford has exacerbated the problem by going to war with the dealers.

It’s bloody easy to imagine EV 18 wheelers navigating the hilly parts of Colorado effortlessly, bringing food, oil and other non-essentials to Kalifornia.

Bert, how do you think this will play out, short-term, and long-term?

“ People are just not buying a truck that starts at $50 grand and up and up and up.”

I saw a managers special price on an F150….red hot sale…$97,900.

I've driven 18 wheelers through mountain passes in Colorado. I don't believe for a second that an EV truck weighing 80,000 lbs would make even half way up any of them.

Tesla is the prime disruptive force all across the world. Tesla is currently making a car about every 40 seconds. There are lots of Tesla’s. Other companies can’t compete on price and especially on technology.

Toyota announced it is switching to the giga press die cast bodies Tesla has pioneered. Toyota is the world automotive leader.

Toyota knows and will project hybrids for a long time. Pure gasoline engines will likely be phased out. There will be no electric vehicles in Africa

Electric Vehicles will make headway in cities where they can be charged at home. An apartment dweller with no personal charging capacity will not want an EV. An HVAC company with charging capacity might have all electric vans for the technicians

There is going to be a lot of EV company failures. They simply lack the engineering brains to compete. With ford and GM adopting the Tesla charging standard, “Tesla owns the gas stations”

There is going to be no total EV condition.

I respectfully disagree. Assuming one is in a situation where an EV is a good fit for your driving habits, there are plenty of good EV's less expensive than Tesla. The Kia EV6 to name one. For us tall people in our '50's or older (for which getting in and out of the EV6 would be like a clown car), the Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover is good and cheaper than the comparable Tesla crossover. I average 3.6 miles per kWh in my Ioniq 5 (2.7 on the interstate driving 80mph). And if I pull up to a road charger with less than 50%, it charges at 350kW. It charges from 20% to 80% in 10-15 minutes -- the time my wife wants to stop and walk around every 200 miles anyway.

And don't get me started on Tesla's solar products. LOL

That’s just sick. I drive a 2020 F-150. It’s a company car and pretty bare bones. I spec’d out what I wanted. Crew cab and 4 WD are the only options.

Even at that, I think the price tag was pushing $40,000. I’m 20,000 miles away from exchanging it for another. The company already has another one that’s being used by a soon to leave employee with only 10-15,000 miles on it, so I assume I’ll get that one.

Best part is that I’ve got first dibs on buying out the current lease. I did that for my last one and flipped it for an $8,000 profit. I’m buying this one to keep.

—”I saw a managers special price on an F150….red hot sale…$97,900.”

When the Dodge Viper came out and dealers started with the insane markups...
The quote from Iacocca was, “I will cut the balls off any dealers caught selling over MSRP”.
And that seemed to end it.

A local dealer had an auction, list price for the Viper plus the highest charity donation wins the car.

Add factor in Colorado winter temperatures. Frigid temps are not EV friendly.

I LOVE my 2021 F-150. Bought it through a private sale, paid cash. Most luxurious thing I’ve ever owned since my first car, a 1971 VW Bug in 1978.

After a few others (a Dodge Colt hatchback & a Nissan Maxima) I had a 2008 Ford Escape for a decade. 200K on her when I gave it to a family in need. Still going strong, though she needed a new muffler. ;)

Totally sold on Ford products.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thank you for your response. I understand what you mean, but let me clarify: the TRUE disruptive source in the world, is Satan. I know, some don’t believe in him, but those who don’t, will likely meet him face to face-

As they burn, screaming for mercy, for eternity...

I bought one of the last Dodge Grand Caravans to be produced from a one year old fleet for $15K. With the second and third rows folded flat, it does most of what the $50K pickup will do and it gets 26MPG on the highway and 19 around town. I won’t be mortgaging my house for a new truck anytime soon.

Prices on new trucks and cars are beyond ridiculous.

I refuse to buy any vehicle made by the UAW.

Nit even if they are 2 for a dollar.

If I need a pickup I’ll go with Toyota or Nissan

Yep. I lived in Denver for quite sometime. Was even a ski instructor for awhile. Well acquainted with mountain winter temps.
