The 80s.

The 70s should be destroyed. To those who disagree, one word: Disco

Cocaine. Was late 70s for me

In the south we were closer to Florida

It was ubiquitous and folks thought it cool then

Even my parents went to parties with coke in the bathroom

No of course not don’t ask

Steely Dan was always one of my favorite groups, at least through Gaucho. Never cared much for their later albums.

REM is horrible. They might have 2 good songs if that.

Everything now is derivative.

It’s like classical music, there’s really nothing new you can do with the genre, and people just stick to listening to the classical composers, like Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, etc.

Had one, loved it, the song too!

60 to mid 70s was my era.

I might have listed Rumours instead of Tusk, but yes, that’s a pretty compelling list.

“It was real embarrasing to see the hair metal bands trying to go grunge after Nevermind.”

I was embarrassed for them. It turned me off music for a number of years too. I liked bands that tried to stay with the times and change up their sound to experiment, but that was so bad I just couldn’t watch. It was nails on a chalkboard.

It was far worse then the 80’s with groups trying to do rap.

There’s a really good documentary out there on the Swampers, if you haven’t seen it, go seek it out. I think Amazon or maybe Netflix.

The 80’s gave us Slayer. Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. As well as Guns n’ Rose’s, Suicidal Tendencies, Van Halen (1984), The Smith. A lot of garbage, as with every era but there was a lot of good music too.

My children are definitely turning to “the classics” as they age.

A couple months ago, my daughter asked me to fill in the blanks in her list of music that I introduced them to on my car CD player when she and her brother were small.

The Carpenters, the Doobie Brothers, Henry Mancini, The Bee-Gees, Simon and Garfunkel, Carly Simon, and others. She’s trying to explore the music I grew up with using Spotify.

The reason I say may favorite all-time band is XTC, is because they were never “hip” or modern.

And XTC songs are like snowflakes, no two are the same. I can enjoy a song like “Travels in Nihilon”, or “Complicated Game” every bit as much as “Chalkhills and Children”.
