Police in Waco have apologised after shooting and killing a Texas couple's dog after being directed to the wrong house after a 911 call.
The black Labrador, Finn, was shot by police last Saturday after the dog "acted aggressively" towards police and lunged at an officer, according to the department.
The dog's owners, couple Cassandra Page and Matt Vasquez, have disputed this claim by the police however. Vasquez has said it is "absolutely incorrect" Finn was aggressive and said the dog was just curious about the officers, according to a Waco Tribune-Herald report.
The couple are now considering legal action against the Waco Police Department and have asked for body-cam footage of the incident to get a greater understanding of what happened, according to the newspaper.
Page described Finn as good natured, light-hearted, curious and very loyal. She also said the couple have barely slept or eaten since the incident.
The police department ended up at the wrong address after its dispatch system autocorrected an address in the 3200 block of North 20th A Street.
A woman had called 911 reporting a burglary in progress at this address. However police arrived one street over at the 3200 block of North 20th Street. The police clarified in a statement that due to the autocorrect, the "A" in "A Street" was removed.
"Our officers acted in good faith to the dispatched address. When officers arrived at the 3200 Block of N. 20th, they saw the backdoor ajar which corroborated information received in the initial call," the Waco Police Department said.
"Officers announced their presence, and shortly thereafter multiple dogs came toward officers who retreated. One dog who acted more aggressively lunged at our officer, retreated, and then lunged at the officer again.

You can tell a dog is aggressive if it comes up wagging it's tail and licks you.
Concur.
The dog may have had COVID, and a single sniff can kill you.
Accidentally kill a police dog and see what happens to you.
Not sure this Cop’s life is worth more than this dog..
Cruelty to animals is always wrong. I believe it resonates because humans have to be bullies to do it as the difference between their power and that of animals is so uneven.
It brings out sympathy from people who usually say they don’t want the death penalty.
Don’t worry I’m sure the city will send them a check for $25 or whatever.
Will this policeman even feel bad for doing this?
I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing I killed a family pet for absolutely no reason.
I have never met a lab that wanted anything except someone to feed and pet it.
“it was coming right at me with its tongue hanging out of its mouth, and there was drool all while swishing its tail violently. I was afraid for my life)
I had a friend who used to be a deputy sheriff when I told him cops should not shoot so many dogs, he didn’t believe that there were so many pussy cops out there until I sent him articles about a dog shooting almost every day for a while
Dogs protect their territory. I have a 15-pound Havanese and Lhasa Apso mix. She is fearlessly-protective and her bark sounds like that of a much larger dog. I don’t know if she would act inflict any damage on an intruder, but I guess I should consider her a goner if the idiots ever come to my house by mistake.
Black labs matter.
And the cop needs to be fired for being a wimp. Wonder if s/he is a dog hating Muzzi.
Waco. There you have it.
City will say it was a justifiable mistake and have a nice day.
But the cops got home safely that night...
My kids are grown, independent, and established. My wife is of good stuff. I would have no problem exacting justice on the part of my kindest, best friend, no matter what the repercussions.
I worked with a woman who was the daughter of a newly retired canine unit deputy. She said the officers build a much stronger rapport with the dogs than people elsewhere and the dogs are incredibly loyal.
She said years after it happened her father would start to cry when he told of a black criminal in the City of Detroit who, when being chased on foot, cruelly stabbed a K-9 unit dog he grabbed, smiling and laughing as he deliberately hurt and then killed him in front of the approaching deputies.
I would not be able to sleep because...you know...turnabout and all that.
An aggressive black lab?
What BS!
There’s no such animal...
SSS time...
Waco has a leash law so unless the vic’s yard was fenced and the police entered the fence-protected area, it’s a matter of shared liability.
“I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing I killed a family pet for absolutely no reason.”
That is why you and I aren’t qualified to be cops.
We have moral values.
That’s what I thought.
