Researchers found that drinking a 60ml turmeric drink twice a day allowed players to return to their pre-game fitness faster than those who did not.
Playing soccer causes muscle damage in players and an inflammatory response—and their rapid recovery is crucial to optimizing their next performance and reducing injury risk.
The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin—known to have anti-inflammatory properties—and previous studies have found that curcumin supplementation can reduce soreness following muscle-damaging exercise.
This process appears to be aided by a reduction in pro-inflammatory proteins in the blood, known as cytokines, which increase in response to a stress, such as intense exercise.
The supplements used in the study were provided by the Turmeric Co. and players were split into two groups, those who drank the turmeric shot and those who did not. Leg and whole-body soreness and markers of inflammation in the blood were measured at various stages for up to three days post-match.
The team found that the turmeric group returned to baseline levels of subjective soreness and blood markers of inflammation quicker than the group that did not consume turmeric.
"Our findings suggest that the turmeric supplement accelerated players' recovery after matches, allowing them to return to their optimum fitness level more quickly," said Dr. Dave Clayton.
He said, "Elite [soccer players] have a physically demanding schedule, often playing up to three matches in a seven-day period. This causes a large degree of inflammation and pain after games. If this is not alleviated, previous research has shown this can result in poorer performance in their next match.
"Our study suggests that a turmeric supplement, consumed as an easy to drink 60mL shot twice a day, can reduce the degree of inflammatory and muscle soreness that elite players experience after a match."

I take 500 mg of Doctor’s Best C3 Curcumin a day, one of their picks that passed testing.
We buy bulk organic turmeric online and make our own capsules. I take two per day for my osteoarthritis and haven’t needed an Advil in 5 years. It helps my asthma too.
Golden milk:
1 teaspoon turmeric, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa.
milk (I use coconut milk with vanilla).
A sweetener, as needed - Stevia.
Heat it up and stir.
Ditto. Take a real Curcumin product, not just turmeric. The higher cost notwithstanding.
I’m 78, been doing it for years to suppress arthritis pain. Works for me.
Does anyone else here get an allergic reaction to Turmeric?
The whole side of my face swells up like a balloon, from something as simple as mustard on a sandwich.
I make my own curry (no garlic because I work with the public, but rather on the fruity side).
The turmeric truly does reduce pain.
It is also good for the brain.

sorry for the double post
Turmeric has been a known anti-inflammatory for a long time, and it’s part of my daily regimen. People also need to be aware it’s a blood thinner, so if one is already on blood thinners they should consult a reliable doc before supplementing with it.
That sounds very tasty.
did not know it is a blood thinner
not a problem for me but folks need to be aware
thank you

Thanks for that golden milk recipe. We make it, too, with fresh turmeric ground up in the blender. We buy it fresh from the Indian store, they call it “haldi.” Fill blender jar with water, add turmeric root (ginger, too), liquefy. Pour into a jug kept in refrigerator. The ground root will settle in the jug. Pour off liquid into a glass, use a strainer. Add to your various recipes. Just keep adding water to the slurry mug until all the flavor is used up. We have both a turmeric hug and ginger root jug in the fridge at any time. Sometimes we add fresh mint or lemon/ lime juice with citrus skin. Great stuff.
Specifically, the Pineal Gland (aka, 'Third Eye', in the very center, containing rods/cones).
Any placebo would work marvelously for most soccer player “injuries.” They are a bunch of fakes.
Giving the volume of the dose tells nothing about the amount of curcumin contained in it.
I agree.
I take Turmeric from Costco.....no dramatic results but I seem to notice when I don’t take it....
