Boeing on Tuesday warned about a new defect on its 787 Dreamliner planes and that it will delay deliveries of the wide-body aircraft, the manufacturer’s latest production issue.
“We are inspecting 787s in our inventory for a nonconforming condition related to a fitting on the horizontal stabilizer,” Boeing said in a statement. “Airplanes found to have a nonconforming condition will be reworked prior to ticket and delivery.”
Boeing said the issue isn’t related to flight safety and that planes in service can continue operating.
The problem is the latest in a spate of manufacturing issues on Boeing planes that have slowed if not paused deliveries of certain aircraft outright, just as airlines are clamoring for new planes to capitalize on the travel boom.
Boeing had paused deliveries of the planes for several weeks earlier this year because of a separate problem on a fuselage component on certain 787s. The latest issue currently doesn’t affect Boeing’s full-year outlook for Dreamliner deliveries, the company said. Boeing has estimated that it would deliver between 70 and 80 of the planes this year.
Boeing shares slipped on the news and were down about 2% in afternoon trading.
Ping!.....................
IOW, THE TAIL MIGHT FALL OFF....................🤔
“IOW, THE TAIL MIGHT FALL OFF.”
IOW, you didn’t read the article.
Would that be a problem? Seems to me they’d get better fuel economy with a lighter aircraft...
Nice aircraft.
Flew on (two of) them, on a European trip, several years ago.
Their design is supposed to help with NOT having jet lag.
If it ain’t Boeing....
No big deal...China’s “Great Leap Forward” CCP 01 will rule the skies in 10 years.
As the decimal points get more critical, demand increases for real talent who can foresee, identify, and resolve potential issues before they become major problems.
If it ain’t Boeing....I’ll be going.................🤦♂️

It was a joke, son...................😜
I believe the main difference is 25% higher cabin pressure allowed by the stronger carbon fiber fuselage. It’s comparable to being at 6000ft instead of the standard 8000ft. Or so I’ve read.
Other factors include higher humidity (or less dry air rather), LED mood lighting and larger windows than any other airplane. Also the cabin air comes from dedicated compressors and not bleed air from the engines.
I seem to remember a big issue with pins relating to horizontal stabilizer a year or so ago. Maybe someone else remembers.
Boeing is the gang that can’t shoot straight the last 10 years. The 777-8...aka the A350 killer is a dud. The Airbus 220 Neo is a great airplane as is the A350. Boeing’s big problem was they went elephant hunting and sucked up to the UAE carriers and designed airplanes around their needs in the early 2000’s. The 787 Dreamliner is proving to be this year’s 737 Max. Beset by issues, delayed deliveries. Airbus right now is like the Japanese cars in the 1980’s they just took over as the lumbering clumsy giants called GM\Ford\Chrysler sat by and got out flanked. Boeing really needs a clean sheet design for a widebody. The new jumbo is the future. Point to point leave to the 737 and Southwest.
Whew, who needs a reliable horizontal stabilizer, anyway?

I agree and President Trump had the balls to ground them when their own CEO wouldn’t.
