Well, the name could be a clue. It means “the ferry”. What does a ferry do? It goes back and forth.
So I would tend to think it was what they called comets (as you see them moving towards the sun, then back away from it). Either that or some body they would see transiting one way and then the other, perhaps from the illusion of retrograde motion.
Chuck Missler claims Mars, back in the day, had a different orbit and caused all kinds of calamities on it’s near pass by.

Our moon is kind of coincidental and there have been any number of theories as to why that is so. They range from the unlike to the inprobabable to the "it's time for your meds now".
Of course there are a few cultures who have stories of times when the moon either did not exist or went away for a bit and came back.

It was a couple of clicks past the article to get to it. I still had to laugh though. Kind of like when swear words just seem appropriate in the context of a thing. He doesn't go off like Cousin Vinny or anything.

So the same kind of thing, the rays (roads) emanating out from that place at the head of the corner, on the street named for the first ferryman.

I didn’t read Weber; however, I read something in my youth about one of the moons of Mars as an Arc. I just took some poetic license.
The Dahka series is both fun and short. Only three books long and they are comparatively short ones.
Anyhow, the "moon is a space ship" is one of the plot lines.

In "Worlds in Collision" (Immanuel Velikovsky, 1950) the author advances the theory that a wandering planet-sized comet was captured by the sun and caused disruptions on Mars and Earth before achieving orbit and being named Venus.
