Race activists in West Oakland, California demand reparations for 'climate justice': Residents claim rising sea levels will bring contaminated soil caused by historic industrialization to the surface and endanger their health (only 7.65 years left)

The community of West Oakland in the San Francisco Bay area is facing a new environmental threat in the form of toxic waste lurking beneath the soil with residents calling for 'climate justice' in the form of reparations.

The threat is in addition to existing pollution residents must deal with in what are predominantly communities of color.

The stability of contaminants buried underground are a reminder of Oakland's industrial history, but the health and safety of those living nearby very much depends on it remaining in the soil.

But as the waters of the San Francisco Bay rise and reach beneath these pockets of pollution, a portion of the waste will be displaced and spread with more than 130 sites at risk.

The rise in groundwater is believed to be caused by human-induced climate change and the impact is already being felt in West Oakland and other parts of the Bay Area.

Climate scientists warn that plumes of waste will migrate underground, exposing communities of color to contamination long before floods inundate the industrialized shoreline.

'These are environmental health issues that need to be addressed now,' said Rachel Morello-Frosch, a researcher with Toxic Tides, a project mapping the contamination in areas that are vulnerable to sea level rise at UC Berkeley.

Frosch told NPR that she believes the issue is an urgent one and the impending environmental health issues need to addressed.

The toxic waste and pollution in West Oakland are a result of historical racism in housing, economics, and the policies of the past, activists claim.

Residents did not consent to living in such conditions and are now demanding a significant role in any climate resilience plans.

Margaret Gordon, a 75-year-old black woman and environmental advocate, explained that the threat from underground toxins exacerbates the neighborhood's already severe environmental...

This insanity has gone well beyond anything I could have ever imagined.
And, now we have (apparently) a whole nation of grifters, losers, ‘victims’, and wokesters.
I fear for the future of the country.

California was never a slave state. Blacks were not brought to California by force, they came voluntarily. Their descendants may also leave their neighborhoods voluntarily if those neighborhoods are not suitable for them. If they choose to stay, or leave, they are exercising free will and must accept the consequences of their decisions.

Personal accountability for one’s decisions goes hand in hand with freedom. A person with a victim mentality can never be free.

The rise in ground water is probably due to the increased rain last season.

Just won’t rise on his Martha’s Vineyard property because he’s the Magic Negro. He can command the oceans to halt.

They just made a pretty good case that the entire area should be off limits to humans, declared an Environmental Hazard, all homes and businesses to be razed and an immediate quarantine of 90 days for all inhabitants before allowing them to move somewhere else.

RED TAG THE WHOLE CITY. RAZE OR BURN ALL OF IT, FENCE IT OFF WITH ARMED GUARDS to Protect the people of course.

In 1844 a medium sized vessel called the Lucy Walker sank after its 3 boiler simultaneously exploded just South of Louisville Ky in the Ohio river. The explosion was so might a man was thrown so high into the air that his body became a missile piercing the wooden deck when he fell. 100 people lost their lives including 2 children but mostly men as the smoke deck was right over the boilers.

So what’s that got to do with anything?

The owner of the Lucy Walker was not an American per se, he was a wealthy Indian of the Cherokee Tribe named Joseph Van. He lived in Arkansas and not only owned steamboats but perhaps hundreds of slaves.

So how are these reparations idiots going to factor in their equation the significant minority of Indians and Afro-Americans that owned slaves?

No one knows because it’s all just plainly stupid.
