A poignant image of a bald eagle perched atop a US soldier's gravestone has become an internet hit after it was posted online on Memorial weekend.
The giant bird of prey, America's national emblem, was photographed after flying down and landing in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota.
The powerful image was tweeted by the Department of Veterans Affairs on Sunday as the nation paid tribute to men and women killed at war.

The bird, which perched on the gravestone of soldier Maurice Ruch, was captured on camera by Frank Glick and his companion Jo Edwards-Johns, according to Fox News.
Speaking on ‘The Real Story’, Glick revealed that Mr Ruch’s widow had been extremely moved by the picture, which was taken at dawn one morning several years ago.
He said Mr Ruch and his wife used to photograph eagles themselves and had not expected his own photo to touch so many people’s lives.“

“Interesting bird, it doesn’t cast a shadow.”
I was looking curiously at the various shadows in the image too.

"Interesting bird, it doesn’t cast a shadow."
Actually it does. Compare the length of the shadows of the tombstones next and in front to the shadow of the one with the eagle. Although misty the sun is quite high, so the shadows are shortened.
