$7.8 million in damages, including $3.35 million for lost earnings and $700,000 for medical expenses $3 million in lost earnings means he wasn't exactly a poor man.
And what was the other $4 million for? $7.8 million payout - $3.35 million lost earning - $700 thousand medical expenses ≃ $4 million additional money paid to him.

At one time people knew enough to watch where they put their feet. But then the lawyers started advertising that people could get money from the restaurant in which they fell. Lotta money to be made there!

“including $3.35 million for lost earnings and $700,000 for medical expenses.”
So what he got was basically about 4 Million to cover his medical expenses, and earnings he is losing due to this injury and another $4M as punishment against BK for the situation that lead to the accident in the first place.

"Foreign substance" -- probably one of those "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun" thingies that someone smuggled in there.
To: ChicagoConservative27
8 million? Wow.
I hope that doesn’t do BK in, I love the occasional whopper—good stuff Maynard.

If it was postoperative, shouldn’t he be suing the surgeon?

A sigh of annoyance can be heard from Wal-Mart, who is sued roughly once EVERY DAY, most of which are bogus slip-and-falls. And Wal-Mart has a no-settlement policy, so they have a battalion of lawyers, and cameras in their stores are ubiquitous.
And their lawyers are very practiced in such lawsuits. Since usually those thinking to get rich quick from a settlement are poor, it is not worth their while to counter-sue, and even their litigious lawyers are small fry not worth the effort.

$3.35 mil...if he worked to 62, that would be more than a quarter of a million for 14 years.
Don't seem right.
