I thought the left had decided that Ted Cruz was the zodiac killer.
However, it fits with the FBI known behavior to know who the killer is, but refuse to let the public know. That’s their M.O. so to speak. If the crime is solved, the money to solve the crime may go away, and then what are the investigators to do?

There were three things that led them to this conclusion. A wrist watch with paint on it, Poste was a house painter most of his life. Military boot prints like Poste's own military boots and Poste was an Air Force veteran and received medical check-ups at a hospital 15 minutes away from where Bates was murdered. Wow. Do I remember this. My sister and I were in elementary school while all this was going on, and even though we lived clear across the country from where it was happening all we knew was that someone was threatening to shoot the tires of school buses and cause them to wreck. We were terrified. My mother actually had to lie to us and tell us that the police shot a man who confessed to being Zodiac as he was dying just to get us to stop worrying. And I believed it for years!
Whoever it was, I hope he's enjoying the boiling hot poop right now.
